Correct address and its closer to Heathrow – Infact get the picadilly line to Hammersmith and walk from there – It is 5 mins walk from there and you get off on the picadilly before you get to central london so very easy and quick

Gatwick is about 30 min train ride to the city centre (London). It will probably take you to Victoria train station where you can get a taxi to your hotel. Est costs would be 10 to 20 pounds for the taxi and the train ticket I think is 15 to 20 pounds. You could take the underground (subway) from the train station but honestly I wouldn’t bother, the cost of the underground won’t save you that much and it’s more of a hassle. London taxi drivers know all the streets around so it’s never an issue of having them take you for joy rides.

Heathrow on the other hand is another story. It is about a 20-30 minute underground ride to the city centre. Taxi from Heathrow to your hotel is probably 50-60 pounds but I can’t remember the last time I did this. You could take metro into the city centre and if your hotel is close to the nearest metro and you don’t have too much to carry then that would be easier. I think Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world and I personally try avoiding it as much as possible. I am more comfortable flying into Gatwick, getting my bag and going through customs a little faster and getting on the train and then arrive in the city centre, after just get a taxi and you’re gold.

I got my taxi with my flight ticket so maybe that is an option. I never want to get off a plane in a foreign country again without having my taxi waiting to take me to my destination. LOL

Wednesday – Nice work – Just in time for the Fire & ICE Party!!!!!!!!!! TBH as long as I don’t have massive bags I always get the tube but if you have bags it is sometimes just a killer especially if you hit it in rush hour

I would fly to Gatwick and catch the train to London victoria which is about a 30 min journey (either the standard train which is cheaper or the express which doesn’t stop but is slightly more expensive) then get a taxi to your hotel which won’t be far, or if you feel adventurous go for the tube which won’t cost more than a few pounds.
Getting the tube to central london from Heathrow is a real pain even during non rush hour times, and as said before taxi’s will need to be pre-booked from heathrow and are still very expensive.

If you are going to use the tube get an Oyster card as its a rip off otherwise – The tube is bloody expensive for visitors these days so I would do teh following:

Buy an Oyster – An Oyster card https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/entry.do is a card you scan on buses and tubes to get on – They are £3 but thats refunable when you give it back or just keep it for the next time you visit

You can then put money on it and pre pay which means each journey is cheaper than buying a paper ticket – It also has an auto daily cap which finds teh best fare for you if you travel a lot that day = see more here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/oysteronline/2732.aspx

    OR

if you are going to be here quite a few days buy a weekly travel card – You can do this on an Oyster or just get a card one (no id needed for this) – The cost for a zone 1 – 2 is £25.80 http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/seasontickets/4805.aspx

Although the tube is at first a little daunting once you get used to it it is very easy anda hell of a lot faster than taxis on most occaisions. The good thing about being near hammersmith is that it has quite a few lines out of it District will take you SW or onto the Cricle line for Victoria, etc plus Earls Court for IGE/ICE, Picadilly will take you staright into town and Hammersmith and city line takes you aroudn teh north side of teh circle line and into the city =- Plus of course you can change anywhere

    Alex

I fly in from Costa Rica on on the 25th I will then be heading down to surrey for a few days to get meet friends and family and no doubt drink my body weight, i will then be making the long trip from Surrey to Waterloo can I meet you under the clock at 3pm on the 28th and then you can take me to the hotel???????

Only joking great work with this thread, London is dog of a place if you have never been taxis rip you off I guess it must be at least 5 quid just to get in these days, the tube is great as long as you take it after 10am and prior to 5pm, free advice if you have bags ect and you plan to take the tube prior to 10am in the morning or between 5 – 6.30pm i would say dont they are packed you cant move and with bags it will be a nightmare simple option go and get a great pint of British beer and kill and hour or sample a great British fry up much better thabn taking the tube in rush hour.

Bring on London cant wait bangers and mash it has been a year since i have British bangers.

    See you all in London.

    Hiya,

The Oster card is free when you pay for a weekly travel pass. Not a big saving but good to know :)

    See you all in London!
