I’ve also been forced to look around for shared hosting in recent months. I was initially very impressed with TMD Hosting, but their database servers are also a bit slow and quite often you have to contact support to investigate why your website is down. There support was pretty good although they seem to give a lot of “cut & paste” answers to your questions.

I have just recently opened up a Business Hosting account with Hostgator. I must say there service is a lot superior to anything else I have experienced so far when it comes to shared hosting.

I am quite willing, now, to pay the little extra to get a superior service. When my other hosting plans expire at TMD I will be moving them all to Hostgator.

speaking on hosting do you guys think that a joomla spec with a dedicated server is enough to bypass the google page speed issue nowadays?

Yeah I think im going to go with HostGator or GoDaddy…. It just sucks that you have to pay so much extra for IPs…

What ever you do just stay away from GoDaddy, they’re pro’s at selling extras. You only get a 1MB email facility with them, if you want more you have to pay for it and so it continues with other “extras” that most other hosts offer free.

Yeah I know, I have all my domains with them… and have to click NEXT on ten pages of products before I get to check out lol…

I also forget they have there own control panel. No so much worried about the sales… I GUESS… has anyone used bluehost or dreamhost? Comments on them…?

For Linux dedicated servers, I have been with coreix.net now for some 6 years. Upgrading every 12 months or so. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

My best host I have ever worked with is Hyve.com who Dom recommended. Their setup infrastructure wise is extremely professional and state of the art – what with it being in a cloud environment. Their support staff are also some of the best in the business.

However yet again you get what you pay for and they cost a small fortune.

Both these hosting companies are UK based.

netelligent.ca a canadian hosting solution is quite solid as well.

you get what you pay for.
