I have been doing business with godaddy for years and never had a single problem.

Wait for the reply to your mail. I am sure it will be set straight.

Thanks Dominique, I hope so.. it is just not fair to have an error which is not my fault and then to have them revealing my details.. the least they could have done is to keep it private.. :unhappy: told the guy (from GoDaddy support) on the phone “at least you could hide my details” perhaps with my foreign accent I have made him confused he then asked me suspiciously “from whom?”…:hehe: I guess I should be patient and wait for an email back…

All my domain names (12) are registered through GoDaddy, never had any problems with them and will continue using them for domain registration.

Although I host my sites with a different company, but that is because my current hosting provider includes more features for a cheaper price.

    Hi,

This might be a one-time thing with GoDaddy, I have never had any issues with them..and their support is excellent.

Give it some time, or try calling again.

MissM I have over 1000 domains registered with Godaddy and have never had any problems with them either. Did you call their support number and ask for assistance or an explanation of what happened?

:omg: Unbelievable, I’ve received a reply from the fraud department!! ME?? WHAT HAVE I DONE!!! I was shocked!! they said they have canceled my account because I registered with a different IP address in a different country from the one I actualy live in. isn’t worldwide means I can do business on the internet wherever I am? I’m always in different countries!!

Of course I sent them another reply saying this is 100% my details and my credit card!! and now I’m waiting for another reply from them.

Does it make any sense to anyone here? Professor, is this a common thing? do I must register in the same IP country address as my address? what shall I do next?

    MissM

Each time I have a specific concern with my domain names I make a quick post on http://www.webhostingtalk.com

A lot of professional in this field there ,so maybe they have an answer to your issue.

    Good Luck

Hope you get your problem fixed. A quick email from Godaddy, asking to proove that it’s really your credit card (scanning it for example), would avoid this confusion…

Thanks for your help guys… My first domain… I thought it would be easier than that…
Webmaster7, They wrote this “Please have the cardholder send us a copy of government issued photo-identification such as a passport or drivers license and we can re-open this account. This information can be scanned and attached to your next response”
Now that they have my full details they want to have my picture too.. I’m confused.. is it a common thing? Plus the domain I wanted is no longer mine and on a new offer, they could at least kept it until we’ll fix this issue, It did not stoped them from charging my credit card though…

I’m really upset of the way they are dealing with it. :banger:
Shall I send them it anyway to clear things out.. that I wont have a “bad credit” with them in the future or shall I just buy another domain through “MarkMonitor” or somewhere else?
    MissM

    Hello!

I’m sorry to hear that you lost your desired domain. Some Registars do ask that for extra security, and in your case it’s just because of those different country IP’s. If you want to deal with them, send the info they asked. If not, don’t send :) It’s your choice!

I think you should fix things with them.

I have had nothing but good experiences with them over the years.

I guess you are right Dominique I should fix it anyway just in case they wont put me under a “black list” or something which might make things even more difficult for me in the future.. I’m just a bit disapointed from them.. Perhaps I’ll send them what they wanted but then wont re-purchase the domain..

Thanks webmaster7 for the kind message.

I know nothing about the safety devices of Godaddy, but that alerts in the security when IP address are changed are common in other companies too.

For instance if I login in from a different computer than mine in SFIpay, they will restrict the access until a new pin is created by the system.

I agree with the others that you must insist.
First replies from huge companies are allways canned answers, but then the problems are solved.

In the past I even had problems with Clickbank inside the same country! I live in 2 places, separated by a few hundred miles, and when I tried to use my CC in my holiday house, it said I couldn’t because I was away from home. That was boring…
They lost the sale, and I bought directly throught Paypal.

As to your case, I would also send the info they asked. It just depends on how mad you are with them. If we think right, they were just trying to protect the credit card owner, that is you :)

    Bye!

    Interesting.

It is relatively common for the information requested to be asked for by online bookmakers when you open an account.

Typically it is done when suspiscions are aroused or if the customer is accessing from an exotic location (and as I’m based in New Zealand I get asked often).

Much of this requirement is laid out by the credit card companies themsleves (Mastercard / VISA) as the prudent method to minimise card fraud.

I’d just go through the motions and send a scanned JPEG of the items.

    Good luck.
    :hehe:
