InactiveReply to them that it isn’t you.
Ask for their help in the matter.
Someone once used one of my domains for spamming and I did end up having to close the site down.
An alternative is to change servers/hosting companies – asap.

InactiveGoogle is applying pressure to Godaddy, I would for sure find another hosting company if possible. In doing so it will get you out of the line of fire. Godaddy is the scrapers paradise and its’ rare they take any action on anyone.
I say engineer get out of that hosting company!! greek39

InactiveThanks for the feedback, Dom and Greek.

To clarify, I bought the domain at Godaddy, but I host all of my domains elsewhere. In this case, the affected site is being hosted by a company called Serverseed. Not sure if that means anything or not.
When you say that I should switch hosts, should I move the affected domain only, or should I move all of the sites away from that host?
Thanks again.

InactiveJust the affected domains, and do it instantly, before more complaints come in.
Speed is of the essence.

InactiveThanks… I just switched the nameservers at GoDaddy. I hope to have the site back online later today.

InactiveGood. As long as the cmplaints were confined to godaddies you should be fine.
Make sure you let godaddy know it wasn’t you.

InactiveI will do that. Thanks again.

InactiveI hear this kind of stories many times in hosting forums, but it is the first time I have a real issue from a legitimate webmaster affected.
The last I hear is that godaddy deleted 200 domains hosted in a russian server.
Anyway it is a matter of concern when proffesional people are affected with bogus complains.
A lot of real merchants are moving from GDaddy for this reason.July 21, 2006 at 3:52 pm #699522Anonymous
InactiveUpdate —
Unfortunately, I had to cancel the domain.

Here’s the story.
NETeller, as you may know, has had a few security issues lately. I recall reading somewhere on CAP about someone having $2,000 stolen from their account.
One of my sites (which promoted casinos that accept NETeller) popped up on the radar of some anti-phishing organization.
After talking with GoDaddy’s abuse department, it appears that no “actual” phishing took place via this site. This leads me to believe that someone submitted a false claim to this organization simply because they didn’t like my site competing with their own.
Thanks for that, whoever you are.
Anyway, NETeller is very sensitive to security issues right now (due to the recent security breaches), and they wanted to resolve the phishing complaint by having my site taken down permanently — even though, as I said before, no actual phishing was taking place.
GoDaddy agreed that the situation was unusual. They suggested that I comply with NETeller’s request by cancelling the domain. I didn’t like the idea, but I also didn’t think it would be wise to wage a battle against NETeller.
So…. that site is history. :baaa:

InactivePerhaps the reasons I will never deal will Godaddy or Neteller. Most unfortunate Engineer, I am truly sorry. greek39

InactiveI have found Neteller to be very responsive to direct contact. Have you even talked to them?
They should like your site!

InactiveJust wondering, wouldn’t extending your registration of the domain, with a new domain registrar effectively move the domain name away from godaddy? In addition, the email you put up said to remove the problem, not the whole site.. the information that was attatched.. that wasn’t any help at all?

InactiveYeah, I know NETeller should like my site, and I tried to explain that to the Godaddy abuse department. I thought NETeller would be supportive of a site like this, since my site is (indirectly) bringing in money for NETeller. Godaddy’s response: “Well, your site is bringing in money for you…”
Ass. Of course the site is bringing in money for me! But it was also indirectly helping NETeller by sending people to reputable casinos where they would (hopefully) use NETeller to make frequent deposits. My site wasn’t competing with NETeller; it was providing information for people wanting to play at reputable casinos that accept NETeller.
No, I didn’t talk directly to NETeller. I probably made a mistake by not doing that. :plain:
I am going to launch a new NETeller-themed site over the weekend. If this type of thing ever happens again, I will definitely touch base with someone at NETeller.
LadyH — the information they attached was a screenshot of the site’s home page. They didn’t specifically describe what was wrong with it; they only told me to remove the “offending content” and showed me a picture of my whole site. That was most unhelpful. sleepy.gif
