InactiveI saw some clips from the London airport – same thing it seems. Big planes rocking in the wind while parked and people holding on to anything they could find so not to get blown away.

InactiveYep – finally a winter blast through Europe this season.
Strongest storms in 17 years says BBC. Wind gusts upto 99mph.
Basically that’s not Florida conditions at all – but is a significant storm in UK terms.TRees falling over, roofs coming off. 11 UK people dead.
So obviously a major weather event. But forecast for Sunday is sunny, calm – but cold. So people travelling for ICEi and Cap Euro look like they’ll miss all the action – if not the cleanup.
sigh.gifGood BBC link ..

InactiveHey Prof,
thanks for the thoughts.
Yep – we got hit pretty hard. Power cuts and massive damage to many areas around here. We had no power for about 20 hours. Some parts were worse hit than this area – but it was still a massive eye-opener as to the power of mother nature. Especially the the part where you realise how dependant you are on power.
Winds were up at 140-160 Km/h and so much rain in such a short space of time I have never seen.
Clean up is underway and the trains etc. will be normalised on Monday apparently. I guess 4 days is not too bad when one compares what has happened elsewhere in the world.
Thankfully everybody I know here was not hurt and only 2 had some damage to their cars.
