LeroyGMemberThis is a big deal. It is very possible that the doj will use the settlent to fund cases against other companies, maybe private ones now. It also validates the “illegal” question surrounding the industry. Paypal rolling over for 12 million is one thing, but Party and 1 billion is a problem. Just that fact that companies are willing to go down without a fight will make them an easy target. There is still no law in place that has any teeth but it has been proven in the past that once the DOJ makes it known that a site is being targeted, the site folds.
This is bad all the way around, I can’t find any good in this.

InactiveMaybe the fact that a settlement was reached can be seen as a positive? DOJ may start heeding warnings and listening a little more? then again – im assuming the payoff will have been a fat sum. any ideas anyone? not finding much on this to be honest…

LeroyGMemberOk fine, I will do one positive reframe of the situation…..
We are eventually going to be a very legit and regulated business in the US of course. Nobody knows when. I can tell you that this settlement is one more step in that direction. Now, will this settlement serve as a short term headache for many in the business? I am sure. The gov’t wants some money back. They are getting it. They made it clear that they are not going to regulate anything until they get some money back. This is just part of the whole process.

CASINO JET7MemberCould be a double bluff…..lure them in and then the nets will drop as soon as they walk off the plane at JFK. If I was them, I wouldn´t risk it until the Preacher Man or Bill´s Old Lady gets in or they´ll be doing time at His Majesty´s Pleasure.

i sincerely doubt that this is a case of double bluffing. there is just no apparent reason for DOJ to ‘pretend’. if they wanted to lure them in, they would have just sent papers to UK to ask for necessary individuals to be extradited…considering that US and UK signed the ‘fast track’ terrorism extradition documents, it wouldn’t be hard…particularly when you have morons in US congress who have gone as far as linking online casino operations with terrorism (following this logic, Osama is probably hiding somewhere in CAP or GPWA).
furthermore, the only people who ever got arrested were involved with sportsbetting, not online casino/poker. perhaps the DOJ doesn’t have such a strong case for casino/poker gambling, as opposed to sportsbetting.
…so nah, no double bluffing here.
