I got the excact same email…I wrote them back and they told me they would keep my account open for now.

Or, was it never noticed, and now that the ‘economy’ is a little different they are handing out cans of whoopass all over the shop to cut costs, and make more themselves.
Paying affiliates is considered ‘costs’ I am sure.
Paying the affiliates some respect however is apparently a little too much to ask.
They were going to give me a probationary period if I would put them back up, needless to say they will never be on my sites.
