While Bret Hart was one of my favorites growing up, there’s no comparison with The Nature Boy. At one point in his career he did more than give chops, unlike now. The guy has many legendary matches. The one with Vader stood out for me (was too young for his previous matches). I remember their famous superplex. Noone was as natural as Ric in taking a beating. He made it look like an art.

We all know its scripted, but isn’t everything in life?
And these men and women may have to “act” for the most part and know thier lines….but athletes they are. no doubt. and some are better than others!
so my question remains, who was better in thier prime.

Which reminds me, Macho Man Randy Savage kicked ass, and i was also partial to Rowdy Roddy Piper, the way he cracked that coconut over Snuka’s head, beautiful
It’s true these guys don’t get the respect they deserve as athletes because it’s scripted, but what they do is really hard work that requires not only physical ability but acting skill and charisma, Roddy Piper in “They Live” showed some excellent acting ability
Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation with Jim The Anvil Neidhart and Dangerous Danny Davis was cool, the Pink & Black Attack could do no wrong
But Ric Flair, The Nature Boy was something else, with that Figure 4 Leglock, and the way he could endure a beating, a legend, only Hulk Hogan is comparable to him as far as what they did to put pro wrestling on the map

Isn’t Dusty Rhodes the daddy to “that gold guy”? the one who had on ladies clothes under his wrestling attire??

How about all the crap with the “Warrior”…he was my favorite back in the day, but now, i have read soooo much crap about how all the wrestlers hated him, and he was very self centered and selfish, and would not play nice with anyone. geez, ya just don’t know?
Ok we have a few things in here to cover:
1. Woooooooooo! The Nature Boy Ric Flair is the 16 time World Heavyweight Champion and has been rocking the house for over 30 years. He’s Space Mountain! Wooooooo! Brett Hart was a great wrestler and tactician, but he had a much shorter career and didnt acheive the same level of greatness as Ric Flair (none have though HHH is a good candidate to be spoken of in the same breath.) Summary: The Jet flying, limousine riding, kiss stealing and wheeling and dealing son of a gun is the winner here. Wooooooooo!
2. No, Lex Luger was not convicted of killing Miss Elizabeth. It was an accidental drug and alcohol overdose. They both led a fast life and unfortunately her’s caught up with her. Lex still lives in Atlanta and appears at regional shows and fan events.
3. Dustin Rhodes (Gold dust) is the son of Dusty Rhodes. HIS Son is now wrestling in the WWE as Cody Rhodes. Dustin is wrestling in TNA as Black Reign. I was good friends with the nephew of Stardust and got to meet him a number of times.
Florida was second only to Canada as a producer of great wrestlers, most retire here. Local Tampa Bay Alumni include Barry Wyndham, Blackjack Mulligan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Leaping Lanny Poffo (Macho Man’s brother), Hulk Hogan and dozens of other mid card wrestlers. A few of our retirees include Kevin Sullivan, Exotic Adrian Street, Hacksaw Jim Dugan, and rest his soul Bam Bam Bigelow.
When I grew up it was our number one sport and actually rivaled football in popularity.
Nature Boy of course and I don’t watch this stuff I just remember my uncle tossing me around practicing his moves he learned from Nature and let me tell you something that figure 4 leg lock was not fun to endure:sarcasm:

I don’t remember watching Flair until the early 80’s, and he just didn’t float my boat….and now, i can’t believe at his age, he is still in the ring?
How about this quesiton. What about Chris Benoit? Do you think the steriods drove him over the edge, or was there more to it. It was such a shock and so friggin sad, i cried, and never even really liked him. But something terribly wrong happended, and i haven’t heard much lately , don’t know what they are ruling it.
No suprisingly enough Cody doesnt dress funny in the WWE and he is one of the current tag team champions so he is doing very well.
Flair started in the late 70s. Here’s something about Slick Ric you may not have known. He was riding in a small plane with several other wrestlers including the world champion at that time Bobby Shane and wrestler and TV commentator Buddy Colt when the plane crashed in Tampa Bay! Bobby Shane was killed, Buddy Colt was terribly injured and never wrestled again and Ric Flair suffered a broken back!!! That provides a real testament to just how tough and how dedicated he was to Pro Wrestling. Not only did he come from what would usually be a career ending injury, but he dominated the sport through the 80’s and early 90’s and hes still going today….. Woooooooooo!
Regarding Benoit its a very sad situation that I dont think anyone will ever understand or explain away. Did steroids, HGH and Mega Doses of Testosterone have an impact, absolutely. Did years of trauma to the head have an impact, absolutely. But did those things ultimately make him snap that weekend? Only two people and a small boy knew and they cant tell us.
This was a terrible tragedy that I will never fully grasp.I can’t agree that Roid Rage or too many chops to the head made Benoit go off and kill himself and his family
It’s just a case of stress manifesting out of control and making him snap, which happens from time to time when u find yourself in an unhealthy relationship
Benoit was on his second marriage, his wife was on her third marriage, she had a restraining order against him, i mean that’s really messed up, u can just imagine what kind of house that was, prolly very loud with lots of fighting and not particularly healthy, not to mention that Benoit was already a tempermental kind of guy
And his best friend Eddie Guerrero died a little while before that, so u can see that Benoit was stressed, depressed, and all he needed was a little push over the edge that i’m sure his wife provided him with
Sylvain Grenier, 1/2 of La Resistance, and Brian Adams, Kona Crush, who died from the same steroids found in Benoit died very differently, and non violently, and the brain damage theory is just an excuse which i can support because it was created by his friends to spare him embarassment, but he suffered from a different kind of mental trauma in my opinion, i watched him talking just before he died and there was nothing retarded about him

Nick you could very well be right. Like I said we will never really know.
I never met Chris Benoit, but I did know Nancy when she was married to Kevin Sullivan and I hate to say this about the dead, but she was mean as a snake. Both her and Chris drank and abused drugs so I can easily imagine him putting the crossface on her, but from all accounts Benoit adored his son. As a parent I cant imagine EVER doing to to my child. Maybe its just easier for us to believe that the roids pushed Chris over the edge instead of saying he was a monster. But I think the ultimate truth lies somewhere between our two theories.

I agree with the idea that we just can not imagine , as parents doing to our child what happened to that sweet little boy. and from all accounts and from pics i have seen, Benoit loved his son, so how could be kill him? and in the manner in which he did?? also, why would he wait a day or more in that house with his wife and child dead, to end his own life? Some things just don’t make sense, and thats why i choose to believe that there was something deeply wrong with this mans mind.
To many concussions? Drugs? mixture of drugs?? Mental illiness? who knows,but it had to be something.
Otherwise, no one, and i mean no one, knew this man.
And i also believe that if Eddie was not dead, this wouldnot of happened, he was the only person from what i have read that chris confided in, and in the end, he really needed him, and if eddie was still around, he would of helped him through whatever it was the drove him over the edge.
