“Several former presidential diplomatic and military officials have signed a statement condemning the Bush administration’s foreign policy, saying that it has harmed national security…………..including retired Marine General Joseph P. Hoar, commander in chief of U.S. Central Command over-seeing the Middle East in 1991; and retired Admiral William Crowe Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff 1985-89 [AND] William Harrop, who was appointed ambassador to Israel by former President George Bush in 1991”

Ok, Professor what is there to respond to? I read it and all it says is that they plan to issue an open statement on Wednesday criticizing Bush’s foreign policies. Now really without knowing what it is going to say how could one respond and how can one gloat?

Thats one of the biggest problems with the far right. No matter what happens in the world around them they disregard it.

A devastated economy is dismissed or spun as “a move in the right direction that takes time”.

The largest budget deficit in history after a budget SURPLUS is also blown off as “deficits dont matter”

A war where hundreds of AMERICANS are killed and thousands maimed all in the search for “weapons of mass destruction” that never exisited is excused too. Forget that it cost of 100s of billions of dollars. Forget that thousands of innocent civilians are also lost in this effort, it doesnt matter they arent real people, are they?

Oh, by the way, how many Iraqis were on the planes of 9/11? Did I hear 0. Yep, 0. How many Saudis? Can you say 17 of the 19? Uh, isn’t Osama Bin Laden a Saudi national? Doesn’t his family continue to earn billions in Saudi Arabia? Oh, but since the administration has DEEP financial ties with the Saudis we ignore them and instead beat the crap out of Iraq. Yeah that makes sense from a National Security stand point. I guess 9/11 was proof that the Iraqis and NOT the Saudis were a much greater threat to US security. Right?

Ok now 20 former government officials including many REPUBLICANS and GENERALS form a coalition to let everyone know they believe the US is heading in the wrong direction and DAMAGING our national security and we are supposed to ignore that too. What’s the party line here? Sour Grapes?

Yep, the far right is predictable if nothing else. There is NOTHING they could read or see that would change their dogged devotion to rhetoric and lies.

The Republican Party’s strength over the last couple of decades has largely been because of its solidarity. The Democrats, almost by their very nature, are somewhat divisive and sometimes don’t put forward a cohesive agenda.

That many Republicans signed an open letter criticizing Bush’s foreign policy direction is telling at the very least. We’re talking about a party that doesn’t believe in criticizing the party line, much less the party leader.

And, just as a parenthetical thought as it relates to Professor’s comments on the war in Iraq–there has been a lot of talk about “support our troops”.

The best way to support out troops is to NOT send them into ill-advised wars under false pretenses. Anyone denying that we sent our boys to war under false pretenses in this case certainly does have blinders on.
