InactiveIs it possible a page can have google PR but since the PR update have been dropped from google? As we know the PR value on the toolbar is out of date.
For example Ive seen links pages with PR but then no cache of the page,

Inactivealso indexing and PR are not all that related..

InactiveIf you get dropped from Google’s index, your site will continue to show PR until the next PR update.

This is exactly why I was asking because I was checking some sites who requested link exchanges and some had PR 4 or 5 but yet those pages weren’t indexed. If I’m going to trade links it’s not going to do me any good if the page isn’t indexed. Correct?

InactiveThat is correct. Actually if you trade links with sites that have been delisted from Google, you will actually hurt yourself since those are considered “bad neighborhoods” by Google, and if you link to a bad neighborhood, then you site takes a hit…link to many bad neighborhoods and your site gets pulled from their index as well.
Always check a link partner before linking to them (if they link to you it’s no big deal). Here’s a site I use to make sure a site isn’t banned:

Is that guy’s name “whinny”? It sounded supicious and I didn’t do anything yet.

Inactivedont confuse a single page indexed with the site being indexed!. Sounds like you are saying the page with the link to your site is not in the index but it has PR. If the entire site was not listed ie site:http://www.domain.com returned 0 then thats a different story. Remeber google does not display all information on indexed pages as well as backlinks.

It sounded supicious and I didn’t do anything yet. Some of the request were through LinkMachine and some were submitted via my sites. I didn’t pay much attention to the person’s name, just checked out the site and didn’t feel comfortable and kindly said no thank you. I always check out the site, make sure the link directory is accessible from the home page, try to determine it the link page is on there server, etc.
webber286 – thanks for the link to the site I’ve saved it for future reference. Unfortunately I don’t remember the site names that requested the link, but will use the tool next time there’s a doubt.
allfreechips – You are correct, the page with the link is not in the index but has a PR which is exactly what is confusing me. In order for it to have a PR wouldn’t it have had to be indexed at some point? And if that is the case, why would it no longer be indexed? Because it was dropped? That wouldn’t be a good thing either would it?
Thanks everyone for the replies.

InactiveA page can have pr and not show in the index and also be good for your pr ie link.. Google does not show all, you must always remember that.
in a week you may see it in the index
If you judge each page your linking with in that requard you will keep altering links on and off.Heres what I follow when i have a link swap.
http://www.domain.com/robots.txt – make sure they do no dissalow bots to the links!
link on the homepage to links page — insure its clean, no ref=nofollow or cgi
actual link on the links page, seems linkman links DO NOT INDEX! I have yet to figure that out but have noticed it!if a page has actual real PR then that means googlebot is getting to the page so thats a good sign!
