DanmanMemberI can think of quite a few muggers in the industry so might be a tricky one that Shay!

InactiveBarca’s okay, but I’d vote for a new host city just for a change. I’ll never go to London in Winter, but like getting to this one – it’s a much nicer time of year to travel.

Your concern is touching, Marty.
Yeah, I heard about the muggings but the closest I got was GBH on my rectum from some of the battered prawns from the CAP (so-called) Lunch on the Friday! :roflmao:
Four hours later I was staggering alone and bewildered through the street of Barca as my body attempted to eject aforementioned prawns from my system. It took every ounce of concentration and self-esteem I had to keep ‘downstairs’ locked-down, meaning that it all escaped ‘up top’.
Here are my guaranteed tips for avoiding a mugging in Barca:
1) Avoid the prawns. No, seriously….., don’t even f#%king think about eating prawns from a buffet – what was I thinking?
2) Sweat. A lot. This gives you the benefit of looking like an actual addict, thereby making people think that you’re more of a threat to them.
3) Puke up into flower beds, bins, any piece of street furniture that seems appropriate…, and puke up often.
I think that point three probably proved the most effective overall

InactiveHi All,
Well I am back and serverly suffering from an 8 night session!!
Regarding location – EIG is definitely moving and is likely moving to Copenhagen which doesn’t excite me too much as it is cold and also dam expensive and based on feedback people would rather a place that is cheap, sunny, has a party element, has a cultural element, and is somewhere they haven’t been
We have a list of about 6 we are going to investigate (including Copenhagen) and will come back to you as soon as we know more.
Re moving there are a few reasons – EIG is moving, the ability to hold the ASOP there right now, people like new places and of course the muggings –
Re teh muggings – There was a shed load this time and some of them really wern’t nice…personally I love Barcelona but the authorities are making a massive mistake not protecting visitors from these ass holes – All they need is a bunch of tourist police that protrol these areas and if they catch someone they deal with them severely much like they do in places like the Bahamas

InactiveI think it is a great idea to move around to different places this way we get to do biz and see new things. Heard quite a bit on the muggings going on as well. Stop picking on Simmo everyone that is my job!:roflmao: The last night in the hotel I have to say the men at the bar were quite rude almost acted as if were were going to drink and dash or something, I really don’t think they liked us in the hotel at all either.
I am excited for the change of venue:hattip:

It all makes sense to me now.
Hearing of all these muggings, I guess I was lucky… on the last night I ended up walking the streets alone, drunk, without a phone, trying to find a cab to go back to the room so I could pack my bags and get to the airport. At one stage I walked up to a group of about 6-8 guys asking them if they would think about giving their cab to me as I needed to get to the airport… They just stared at me and I thought, “Now is the time to run”… So, drunken Renee was running down the streets of Barcelona…almost in tears I might add..
Luckily I came across 2 young islandics who offered to share a cab to my hotel…
The joys of being in a foreign city without a phone.
I actually enjoyed Barcelona… If it is moving I’m glad I got to go to this one before the change of venue.
Nice job on the organising guys… Had a ball

vladcizsolMemberGuys safety and security for everyone at our events is our # 1 concern. Over two years we have had far too many incidents in Barcelona and this is a prime concern. We are also quite unhappy to have ASOP disrupted the way it was. So, yes, we are looking at alternatives for next year.
You can be assured that if we do move it will be to a warm, sunny, exciting and safe place that everyone will love. Lets see what happens I bet your gonna have a great time time and a great event this time next year.

InactiveI thought it was an excellent conference, but hanging around the hotel (looking dodgy!?!) in the evenings was definately the way to go from what I heard. Plus everyone passes through the bar at some point in the evening so it’s actually far more easy to socialise there than in the “thump-thump-what?-thump-thump-sorry” atmosphere of the clubs
OK so I’m old! And KK – yeah, as for being mugged, tell me about the price of those drinks!!But I’m definately up for somewhere sunny next year for sure as a change – can’t say I’m a huge fan of Barcelona itself. Although it’s the first hotel where I’ve ever come across a free-to-air hardcore porn channel!! (alledgedly
)Oh and for the record: Hull City are a class team! :flush:

CASINO JET7MemberAwwwww. I love CAP being in Barcelona- but maybe that´s because I live an hour away up the road so it is fairly convenient. I can´t believe so many people got mugged- the papers here have been full of the crackdown on these idiots- that´s obviously all been hyped up by the government then….

TimboMemberHey buddy, its has been a while!
I have been busy.. sleepless nights, days where I dont see the sun – you know the usual hard working zombie type. My chocolate, caramel complexion is getting lighter – I swear! :tongue:September 30, 2008 at 10:44 am #780305Anonymous
InactiveHi All,
First off, well done to Alex, Lou and all those who had a hand in organising CAP Barca. You all did a brilliant job! The conference had a great atmosphere and an energetic vibe. With the exception of the exhibition being a bit scattered and a little hard to find things, the organisation was commendable. Hats off to you all. :hattip:
Catching up with old friends and meeting new ones is always a treat so thanks for bringing us all together. I rate this conference as one of the better conferences I’ve attended over the years……second only to CAP Spring Break in Miami in 2005.
Well done again and I am certain the next chosen venue will rock!
Lovely seeing you all and hope you made it home safe albeit with battered livers! :wink-wink
Til we meet again………
Ciao.
