MissMMemberI do agree with the fact that a lot of top sites in google are just like ugly, messy, banner and link pages. I can’t believe they rank high and how? Google should be able to spot those one page useless websites.
But I am not packing my bags, I will keep trying

InactiveI disagree and I will explain why. First I will address the one page crappy sites, which redirect to a landing page of a casino that affiliate is promoting, or a one page site with a couple of casinos listed.
It is obvious that blackhats are still finding that using software like xRumer and the like still works in the short term. Otherwise why would this crap still pop up in the top of the serps for the big keywords.
These sites will get slammed by google and will be short lived. However, the person behind this obviously has a lot of throwaway domains ( I believe it is an individual who the casinos who he/she is promoting is known by the operators in question, thus they are condoning his/her activities ).
I have studied the backlinks of one such domain registered on the 13th May and it is full of spammy forum profile backlinks, comment links on unrelated blogs and the such like. Thus proving that old blackhat tactics of the past are still working and alive circa Penguin and Panda. At least in the short term.
Now on to your next point. Ok, so AskGamblers and CasinoListings may have got hit. Does this signal the end of the affiliate industry in iGaming? Christ no!
Listen, anyone that buys links or participates in convoluted link schemes to game google regardless of their content deserves to be hit.
The way google is going is to reward good content and also a clean and natural backlink profile which people as webmasters want to reference as a good resource.
My best site in terms of traffic is clean, I have never bought a single link, never engaged in link exchanges and has good sticky content. Traffic has gone up. Some of my other sites, which I have bought links for in the past or engaged in link exchanges have gone down.
If anything these updates from google are aiming to make it a level playing field for everyone, thus long term good content which attracts natural references and links will rise to the top. Those trying to game google will ultimately get slammed and that IMO is a good thing.

Can you tell the white hat site that has gone up?
I hope in my heart that Google can clean up the mess.

InactiveNope, sorry. I get enough hack attempts and other dubious activities aimed at my sites as it is.

wbprofitsMemberI got to say cutts makes me wear boots . It gets so thick !
Google Penguin 2.0 Update is Live – Search Engine Watch (#SEW)
“It’s gonna have a pretty big impact on web spam,” Cutts said on the show. “It’s a brand new generation of algorithms. The previous iteration of Penguin would essentinally only look at the home page of a site. The newer generation of Penguin goes much deeper and has a really big impact in certain small areas.
yup matt it worked like a charm

InactiveWebzcas:
It’s refreshing to see someone is still positive because I have to say most if not all other affiliates I have spoken to recently are quite disillusioned and frustrated and some decent people are giving up.
What you are saying is only partly true. The party line from google has always been that they will catch up with spam. This round of spam has stuck like nothing I have seen in ten years. Even more frustrating is that you can go three or four pages deep and you will see even more crap coming through. So if G catches up, the next pile of trash rolls in.
You cannot disagree that many, many of the good portals are gone and have been replaced by a ton of garbage. Yes, some have stuck but the vast majority of authority sites circa 2010 are gone. Now if you believe in the Matt Cutts gospel 100% then most of them probably overstepped the line in some way and got hit by unnatural link penalties / panda/ penguin or probably a combination.
I have attended a conference where a google webspam team rep all but admitted that they are losing the spam battle in certain verticals and countries. Not hard to guess which those are.
I have not seen a new PROPER portal enter REAL rankings for a year. There is too much clutter of spam and every possible URL variation from brands that do heavy SEO.
But this is the lay of the land, and we should be prepared to work with it. The game has change but I feel the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
IF you have old portals that have survived all this, you are in a good position because your aging will still carry weight. Good luck to anyone starting new and trying to build that level of embedded value “naturally”.

Well my busiest site, which is not spammy, has a low bounce rate, a NATURAL backlink profile and not grey or black hat, is ranking very well, for some very competitive terms. I started developing this site in Sept last year. Traffic is consistently over 3000 visitors a day BTW.
These spammy throwaway domains are very very annoying. But like I said above, they do get killed and slammed by google.
You should always build for long term and not short term gain. Some of the big sites that have been hit and that continue to get hit, I doubt very much have been developed using what is deemed pure white hat seo.
The webmasters that have been hit if they are honest with themselves no doubt will admit that they have used at least ‘gray’ techniques in the past.

irmacrowstonMemberHi
Agree with everything Webzcas has written.Just to say – we have never paid for links or used black hat tactics on any of our site just unique content, regular info updates and social media & (touchwood & fingers crossed) our sites have never been removed and only climb.
The whole process is made very tiring by the cheating b**tards who are ruled by greed……….. & of course the casino AM’s how encourage this practice also need a jolly good slap…….again greed!
There is something I do when I come across a hacked site (better keep mum about it) and am pleased to say that in quite a few cases the webmasters have got their sites back………although it take google a while to grasp!!!!!
But we (the non cheating affiliates) will prevail so don’t let the b*ggers grind you down

Ciao

InactiveJust went thru a couple of terms, and its 50/50 utter crap.. Think spamming the hell out of a throw away domain is the way to go.. Google just cant get rid of them, and domains are only 99 cents.
Off to buy xrumer

InactiveWith all due respect Webzcas, I’ve been doing this as long as you and there is not a single white hat site that gets that much traffic daily. Unless you rank for “free slots”, which is kinda pointless.
Not meant to be an attack, just find it hard to believe. I’m stumped at how I can make any cash with my white hat sites. They are just sitting there gathering dust.

LucretiaMemberThe techniques used are very high tech and those who use the throw away domains can continue to do so : the method used is faster than the google kick out time.
simple.

gokkenMemberWay back to 2003/4 when PR first came in. How many affiliates used sites like LinksManager to manipulate their serps. We all did it to varying degrees. Why? Because it worked!
As long as their alog rewards external linking, people are going to continue to game the system.
Panda, Penguin, Starfish, Elephant etc etc calling it silly names doesn’t seem to do anything except penalise webmaster playing by the Google Rules. The grey/black hatters which Cutts keeps saying these updates target, do nothing to curb this epidemic.
Until Google seriously rethink their alog and stop rewarding throw away-domains and hacked sites, Google will continue to be part of the problem not the solution.
Besides, there’s be talk for a while the reason this crap is still in the organic searches is to force serious webmasters into purchasing Ad Words and such from Google. Any truth to that rumour?
Index spam certainly isn’t getting less, is it!
May 29, 2013 at 11:09 am #833316
angelinereimer0801MemberI truly believe that any webmaster who is relying on just one single traffic source (ie Google organic search) has choosen the wrong tactic. Really, whether Penguin, Panda or whatever animal will be implemented in the future, I couldn’t care less.

Going to have to disagree with you. There are ways but you need high quality content and a good social media presence.
As for ranking for “free slots” being pointless you have it all wrong. Just look at how many “free” terms LCB ranks for. While the quality may be low there is plenty of money to be made if your traffic is high enough.
