Guestsorry to hear but I imagine this is one of the most practiced sort of things as there is to be found on the net.
The only way to avoid it is to get a domain that is so far out of the ordinary and so easy to NOT mistake/mispell – like GoDaddy.com – it took me a while to appreciate that chosen domain but now I think it was genius.
I ask you to accidently mispell or mistake that domain for any other in their niche.
…. I wonder if gosister is taken?
I guess there is one other way; buy up all the potential mispellings and possible names that could be mistaken for your domain.
Looking at your domain : Yours is out of the ord but it has the slashes in it. We have something in common, I have a couple of domains with “-” in them and its nearly impossible to avoid people targeting your domain.
I bet somebody has listobonus.com . Have you looked?

InactiveYes I own listobonus.com this person bought list-o-bonuses.com and my main domain is list-o-bonus.com You can’t tell me that that’s not intentional as this person knows of it, it was NO accident and since my name is a keyword I certainly have a real problem with it. I wrote to the person and they have written back but at this point I am still not satisfied. Thanks for your input bb1
I’m still livid though. :bored: Shortly after they sent a reply they put the site in frames to some ceramic place, but I have a screen shot of the original.January 11, 2005 at 2:22 pm #659973Anonymous
InactiveThere was a similar discussion about domain names a few weeks ago. It’s one thing to accidentally register a domain that is similar to someone else’s. In these instances, chances are that each domain will have different content, links, keywords, etc.
But to deliberately register a similar domain, and then to go and spam a bunch of blogs with their unoriginal domain…. that’s a double no-no, in my opinion. I would be upset too if I was in your position.
You said the person wrote back to you. Did he explain why he did this? Did he apologize? I’d keep an eye on that URL for a long time to make sure he doesn’t switch it back.

InactiveIf you have spent money and time branding your name, it is worth your while to check this with a lawyer.
One lawfirm that routinely handles internet domain disputes is http://www.gamblinglawupdate.com/ but there are others.
I see you are listed highly at gone gambling – that is evidence of branding.
This is quite a unique name and it was obviously aquired to steal from you.

InactivePluralizing a common word is normal, and you could have registered the doamin if you wanted, and of course anyone can use any link text they want. You don’t have a leg to stand on here. You can report the blog spamming to the search engines if they start appearing in the results.

Thank you Dominique, I have been around for a few years and I work my tail off. I am the sole supporter in my home (husband can no longer work,) so in this case I feel like they have tried to take food off my table, clothes off our backs. I am currently checking things out further, I appreciate the link. I contacted the person, they ARE a member here btw, and they are in denial pretending they had “no intention of using that domain.” My answer was why would you buy it then to begin with and put content in it. They since redirected it to a ceramic site but I saw it differently early this morning.

InactiveReally? They did it to someone else too?
Now I am getting very curious.

That is all it is. You can’t stop people from being obnoxious. You can embarrass them, pressure them to sell it to you, contact anyone they affiliate with and urge them not to do business with someone who does this, etc. Or you could just chill and let the person get the mispelled type-in traffic that you weren’t going to get anyway.
Bottom line, casinoaffilateprogram.com and casinoaffiliateprograms.com can both exist.

InactiveI still think it’s unethical, most wouldn’t blame me for being upset. Thanks for your opinion Classics. I don’t know why you always stick up for the people that do this sort of thing, but I guess everything is cut and dry to you. I’m not picking a fight with you, just voicing my opinion about your opinion, lol.

InactiveThere ARE laws protecting BRANDED websites from this.

InactiveIn my experience, sometimes obnoxious behavior can be stopped with embarrassment and pressure. The real bottom line here is that this behavior is unethical and downright sleazy. We need more honest, professional people in this industry — not more obnoxious, lazy cheaters.

To “chill” is to silently accept this outrageous behavior.

FYI, in speaking to an attorney, I definitley had a case. Trademark infringement. Since the person involved went ahead and cancelled the domain name, things are square…..guess they were adviced by their lawyer as well. Thanks guys for the help and feedback. Particularly Dominique and Engineer :clapper:

InactiveGood.
I am glad if I could help a bit.
We have to stand up for ourselves – no one else will.
