The whole women only thing is nonsense, it’s come from poor research and continual assumptions about how to market bingo. I’ve done a few big write ups on how the UK online bingo market is messing up here, when places like Sun Bingo go for gender neutral design and marketing, they find they have a near 50 / 50 split on male and females. However, sites like 888 ladies and Foxy bingo with their pink colour schemes and female focused branding are around 80 / 20 women to blokes. Effectively they are alienating a large percentage of their potential market by focusing on female players.

In Spain and Sweden, more men play bingo online than women. Men have always been out in force at bingo halls when I’ve visited and worked in them. Personally it really gets my goat that the UK online industry has painted itself a women’s game. The retail industry has never done that as it knows it can’t afford to alienate potential paying players by going all girly and pink. Here’s one site a made about men and bingo – a bit of a p***take but I was cross one day and did it…

I think my membership is more than 80-20 female to male and my site is gender neutral. Many of the male members are husbands recruited by female members.

Jackpotjoy has paid out large jackpots to both men and women. We find that our affiliates are marketing to both.

True, there has been (and probably will continue to be) a deliberate leaning towards the female demographic amongst certain bingo operators, but I think this is not as cut and dried as everyone suggests.

DioBach is right about Sun Bingo. However, ultimately, it’s up to affiliates who they market towards. As bingoadvantage points out, if you are a site owner, then marketing in a style directly meaningful to your demographic makes sense if you want to maximise your profits.
