Smart thing is that dot .ME means the total same in English, Spanish and Italy
and i think they are perfect for casino and poker sites

    Yes they sure are:
GoDaddy.com, the world’s giant in the field of domain name registration, reported that it received over 20,000 different dot .Me registration requests within the first 24 hours.”

According to Founder and CEO Bob Parsons of domain giant GoDaddy.com Corporation, to the best of the company’s knowledge, that volume quite handily breaks any previous record of registrations within the first twenty-four hours.

After witnessing the success of .Me domain name online auctions, Mark Boost, managing director of leading U.K. domain registration company, LCN.com, said that the public has “seen the .ME domain launch to be one of the most successful in history of the domain registration industry. Both businesses and individuals rushed to register their chosen .ME extension when open registration went live on July 17, and I would envisage huge prices being paid for the premium .ME domains.”

    Date.Me just sold for $70.000

I wonder what poker.me and casino.me will go for at the auction?
sure would like to get my hands on Poker.Me:wink-wink

Any idea how .ME domains are ranking for commercial terms in Google yet? That’s the make-or-break decision for speculators. it’s pointless having a domain that can’t rank but if Google decides to give them the same emphasis as .net and .com then they could become valuable.

Domain name speculation is great fun, but becoming increasingly hard. I only buy .com, .net or country extensions if I am targetting that market. I wouldn’t personally spend more than a couple of hundred $$ on any other extension until it proves it can rank, but I’d happily (and have) spend several thousand $$ on .com, net or co.uk. Even .EU has failed to carry much weight in Google on commercial terms and that’s been around for a couple of years now.

I think .ASIA could be an interesting one to watch, as it will be late next year when more extensions like “.gambling” appear.

There’s also an SEO issue here. Where do you host a .ME ? There is some weight carried by hosting your domain extension in the market it’s intended to represent. It’s an area where .INFO has sufferred – it is very hard to make a .info compete on commercial terms because it doesn’t have a “home” and it’s not viewed by the search engines as a commercial domain. I think .ME has similar issues.

I think .ME is great for branding (like the Prof points out above), but needs a marketing budget or viral campaign, or for non-commercial terms.

Also some great gambling ones betfor.me and so on.
Not strange they haveing world record .me sales

But the ranking issues are still important. People might remember “date.me”, but if they don’t know it’s there in the first place….or if the content is crap…it’s irrelevant.

Companies spend hundreds of thousands to build a brand. Will people want to invest that in a .ME domain? Probably not. May aswell play safe with a “.com” at that budget.

Google holds the key to .ME. When I see a .ME domain in the Top 10 for a big gambling term, then maybe I’ll consider them. Until then, not worth risking much more than Reg Fee IMO.

Those ranking issues are definitely important, no matter how much you like this extension, and I happen to like it personally. But after living through so many new tld launches, I’m glad I only bought one this time, and it’s one I frankly wouldn’t mind keeping for many years if it doesn’t ever sell while I have it on the market, even more so if the ranking issues turn out well.

Already over 1,000,000 (1.2 from here):

There’s even a French poker site on page 25.

Just read an intereresting article on this where someone approached Google about .ME. They said they follow ICANN rules when it comes to extensions and ICANN have set .ME up as “Montenegro”.

The upshot of that is, that Google will not treat .ME with anywhere near the same weight as .com, .net or other generic domain extensions, although if ICANN ever re-assign .ME as a generic then Google’s policy would change. That’s the gamble.

A search for “online pub fruit machines” on google comes up with a .ME.UK domain as number one on my google UK search, so that domain seems to be doing well in the searches
