InactiveOk, now I feel misunderstood.
I was not taking issue with helping Matt (although the only help I can think of that is effective is if he contacts gambler’s anonymous, if that is indeed the problem).
I was talking about informing fellow members of what is going on.
Obviously, while everyone thinks they are the only one who hs been approached for money, that isn’t going to happen. But once it becomes obvious to some that he is approaching several people successfully, it needs to be made public.
I want to thank Steve for that – while he was not at all sure about wanting to post this – he did, and did so without anyone’s initial support.
I am quite sure there are still others who have given Matt money who have not said so and likely never will for a number of reasons.

GuestHi again,
well true to calling ’em as I see ’em. an update:
Matt is nearly finished and he did a fantastic job, though I’ve no idea to what degree of difficulty it was to accomplish, I’m very happy and I wrote him a long, long letter and was my usual candid self and with any luck and as I told him, and using the obvious intelligence that he has; he must become (to quote Sienfeld) “master of his domain” and that is done hour by hour, then day by day.
That if he truly wants to be a winner, he must realize the only chance is the side that has the odds, and that’s not on the front side of any slot machine (or table for that matter).
the work he did is at http://www.bondedcasinos.com/matt/accountlocker/ if you want to check it out. feel free to register if you want to see inside. not all the bugs are out but he’s very close to getting it as I’ve seen most of it work correctly already.
Matt has IMHO faced up to his misgivings and I think anybody he owes – will eventually be made right if you do two things;
stay on him without using harsh agressive behavior
and accept work in place of money
that’s just my opinion and all I can say is that I’m very happy even with the cost running twice the original price we started. Looking at it now I feel that I got a deal with what I ended up paying , and frankly would have felt like I took him for a ride if I’d only paid what we started at.
However having said that; I have no idea what the work was worth on an open market, just that I am not feeling ripped-off even if I were to find out tomorrow that I could have had it done for a lesser price somewhere else.
one must consider that Matt also has walked a very web-ignorant webmaster thru this and he probably hasn’t seen the last of that:
I’m thrilled to make this post but I am not sorry I started the thread. It may have done more than just its original purpose, as it has brought up a subject we obviously were going to have to get past at some point; and having brought to light a possible (quality of life: serious) problem that Matt needs to deal with and the sooner the better for sooooo many reasons:
so it might be the thing to turn him around. That would be truly great because I can’t think of a more miserable life than to spend it addicted to gambling.

GuestThat’s wonderful news, Steve.
I have always admired your candor and have loved reading all your posts. I am so happy that things seem to be taking a more positive turn.
I was very downhearted that it appeared CAP was so willing to turn their back on a member over some money, without seeing if they could help a troubled soul.
This isn’t to say i condoned anything, or that I thought Matt needed to be protected – the opposite is true. If he does have a gambling problem, the more trouble he gets into for behaviours stemming from it the better.
As far as open market costs go, I am ashamed to admit this, but I paid over $300.00 U.S.D. to have an established firm make my casinogeek logo and one small 31×88 banner! So I know Matt’s prices are very reasonable, to say the least.
I think you’ve done something very good here, and I have a ton of respect for you, bb1.
Are you married?

InactiveI am very glad to hear it.
I guess online people disappearing for unspecified periods of time despite contracts is nothing new to me either.

Inactiveedited to add: if I’d listened more closely to Ark’s post (last week some time I think it was) – I wouldn’t be here now.
I bow to the master. Now if I’d only learn to listen to him better
My ego (proceeds me) – has once again taken all the credit in my absence … Let me now pat myself on the back – again.
I think I’m a pretty good reader of people (though with matt it was simple) – I’ve been able to see the light about quite a few people long before others were ready and willing take action. Ive always been a straight shooter always speaking my mind from day 1 at GPWA to the present!
You might not like what I am saying but rest assured I am going to say it anway. Moreover, you might not agree with all or any of what I am saying, but if you always did things wouldnt be so fun!
Its good to hear things finally got worked out between the two of you. Just wish I had been around to participate in the thread when it was current.

GuestGuys, I was convinced that Matt’s money problems were because of gamblnig – he loves it so much.
After some more observations and from talking with Matt a whole lot, I think I was wrong. He’s had a couple of very bad months money-wise with his site.
Happily, things have picked up a lot for him.
He’s doing some work for me now, and man he does some GREAT work! He’s a creative genius.
