I think that most rooms have the annoying pop ups.

Some offer the option to block them to your referrals, but I can’t remember which ones right now.

Most softwares will put cookies on your computer, so this may be the problem with adware programs.

I can live with annoying popups on 2nd class websites. What I can’t live with is these websites installing spyware/malware on MY computer. I get them all day long from Paty Poker and 88.com. What kind of advertising is this? I emailed Party Poker about this and they were more concerned that I had an account with them and they started promoting their site. Bull about them not wanting people to spam people. I may be an affiliate with them in the future but they have lost my respect. I am going through all of the spyware, ad aware and virus programs I can think of to get rid of this………………….. They bloody well know about this and could have offered their help right away, member or no member!

I had to reformat my hard drive because of malware directing me to sign up with 888 poker and Party Poker. I am really upset with them. As mentioned earlier Party Poker at first was not concerned and wanted my id: there first before they proceeded with my case. So, if I did not have an id with them maybe I would have had to sign up first to get their help? Bad PR in my opinion. They’re on my 6%*&( list!

You might want to try spyware doctor which is free from google. It has worked well for me. Spybot and ad-aware are also useful tools. You can also manually delete cookies easily. I don’t understand why a business would engage in these kinds of practices. It has always been my policy to not do business with and organization that uses such sleazy tactics–and I let them know it. Last year I had a problem with the infamous winantiviruspro malware. It cost me a lot of time and money. Had to have my hard drive cleaned and lost a lot of valuable work time. I would like to tell everyone on these forums that if you ever get a popup ad from any antivirus or spyware program your only defense is to disconnect from the internet immediately! A lot of these programs do what is called a ‘drive by install’. That means no matter what action you take to get rid of the ad such as clicking cancel or x in the dialog box the program will install itself regardless of your wishes.

beatnikjd: disconnecting your computer right away is excellent advice. I run very good software protecting me from viruses, popups, spyware and malware. I have 3 different unique programs (full versions and paid for),running at all times. It still got through.

My only fault was not copying the url or perhaps looking hard into the source code to try and detect who sent it.

This is sometimes done by affiliates – do you know if the popups had an affiliate code embedded?
