InactiveI went there in June for G2E Asia and really enjoyed it but beware it is NOTHING like Vegas and may people aren’t overly impressed with Macau.
I am sure it will become like Vegas as time goes on but right now it is very focused on gambling and not on entertainment. For example in the mighty Venetian which is incredible and unimaginably huge there is just one bar you can drink in (Its called martini or something like that) and is normally just full of us westerners whilst the Asian are out on teh gaming floor –
If you go to Macau I would recommend you stop for a few days in Hong Kong which I found really cool then do a few days in Macau and if you have time fly on to Thailand, Vietnam, beijing or something as it is dirt cheap (check airasia.com) the guy I was with got return from Macau to Bangkok for 120 USD $!!!!!
Anyway – If you do go let me know and I will list some of the better things I did –
Also another good guy to ask is Spearmaster – He knows Macau really well and can help/advise your other travel in teh region. maybe worth PM’ing him

vladcizsolMemberI agree with with Alex. From all the feedback I heard I would base my holiday/visit in Hong Kong and take the Jet Ferry over when I want to gamble in Macau.
By all accounts Hong Kong is fabulous with some of the best food and shopping in the world. That would be my choice.
PS: Keep an eye open for CAP Asia in 2009 ….:hattip:

InactiveI stayed at the Venetian for CAC Macau last November and will be going back this year. The most amazing hotel I ever stayed in! Macau itself is ok, but Hong Kong probably has more – I’ll find out this November as I’m staying 2 nights there before I cross the water for CAC.
The Venetian – wow. Just amazing. here’s a pic of the room I stayed in.
Simmo!

StarBucksSportsMemberOur Marketing team went to Macau a couple of weeks ago, and it was a blast!
We stayed in the Venetian as well. Great for shopping, and drinking, but not really much else to do once you have walked the strip.
I personally had a couple of moments that I’m trying to get everyone to forget, but there are about a million pics that the girls took to remind everyone

InactiveHK is far better than Macau in all aspects except gambling. but it’s a short traffic from HK to Macau. There are lots of ferries (hourly?) between them.

StarBucksSportsMemberYeah, we took a ferry to HK, and spent the day there. It was a stunning place, and we also took a ferry to see the light show on the HK skyline. Impressive stuff :cappy:

InactiveHVDB, a lot depends on what you want out of a vacation. Are you traveling alone or with friends or partners or family, is your primary mission to gamble, see shows, or shop?
I too would recommend HK as your base, with a couple of days in Macau max.

poluroud20MemberI agree with Simmo, the Venetian is a great hotel and they did have a few bars which we Westerners packed out. Macau is much quieter than Vegas though but good in its own way. Give Macau another 5-10 years and it might get there

In terms of entertainment Vegas-style, you ain’t gonna get that in Macau

InactiveI wonder how the Venetian in Macau compares to the Palazzo in Vegas – I am absolutely in love with the Palazzo.

poluroud20MemberNever been to that casino in Vegas but the Venetian in Macau is amazing – the rooms were huge and the bathroom was the size of my bedroom!
There’s over 350 shops in the mall area which impressed me – I didn’t see daylight for 3 days it was so big

StarBucksSportsMemberThe strangest thing for me was that the Manchester United shop was about three times the size of any other shop in the complex.

Yeah that had to try and fit a life-size model of Rooney in there

PerThornMemberdefinitely agree with alexpratt on the part about taking the budget air to travel around.
When you’re in the area, you should grab a few budget air trips which cost no more than $120 to Bangkok, Singapore and the likes.
It would be one amazing experience i tell you!
