InactiveHi,
I used to deal direct with hosts myself until…I found a team in India that offers cheap 24×7, 365 day a year dedicated server administration
Downside: have to pay upfront for servers 1 month in advance, you have to pay maintenance fee per server to them ($200-$250)
Upside: 24×7 tech support and coverage, no hassle, patches, upgrades, second hard disk drives installs, 100% back ups, 100% uptime. no trouble tickets!
I now host 6 servers through them and they deal direct with the data centres
Anyone interested PM me and i will pass on their details.Cheers

InactiveI have a virtual server from Servint.com. This means I have full control over my dns and can host as many sites as i like. At $49 per month its not exactly cheap but its the next step up before you go for a fully dedicated server.

It took two months to finally get a refund on some recurring billing that had looped. I ended up getting billed 5 times for the same thing, 5 consecutive days, which is an understandable woopsies on the programming end of things, but 2 months to get it all refunded? Yikes.
I would suggest Bravenet.com if you want something fast… A little expensive, but their support team is incredible and personable – crack a joke at them, and they’ll laugh with you. Don’t get that much anywhere else online. Not the best if you’re website is huge, but it’s a good stand-by.

InactiveIf you are after a dedicated server and want to be hosted in the UK I can wholeheartedly recommend coreix.net. Pricey yes, but the phone support is first class and I have never had any unplanned downtime.

InactiveI host all my sites at home using fixed IP’s and saves a lot of money and headache.
I build my own servers as well so it is much cheaper.I used to pay for hosting, but eventually self hosting works great for me.
