Hi All
Google are getting on my nervous
In Google Australia they seem to allow every black hat site and/or cheating webmaster to get top position with crap content.
In one search there are 9 black hat sites on the first 2 search pages………….I know they won’t last forever but why the bl**dy hell they are there at all baffles me.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening again as the ‘great google’ is all for the good guys or is that just their rubbish spin.
Just getting down off my soapbox as the altitude plays havoc with my sinuses…….rant over:laugh:
Let me know what you think
Ciao

December 20, 2012 at 5:34 pm #830895wbprofitsMemberbest way to think about Google is that they do what they want, when they want, and lie to your face anytime they want !
December 28, 2012 at 2:00 am #831094AnonymousInactivegoogle might be the number one source of traffic for most sites, but it is not the only source of traffic.
December 29, 2012 at 6:23 pm #831113tecnowebserviceMemberBut it’s by far the biggest source of traffic so can’t ignore..and if you play your cards well (follow the guidelines)…you can really take advantage of it..

I agree with this to a certain extent. It is a big traffic source, and yes, possibly the biggest, but only if you are doing things the way it tells you to. Even if you follow the guidelines, google can, and does, change these guidelines regularly which makes it even more difficult for webmasters to keep up.

Hi Mate,
I’m an Aussie too and I feel the frustration. If it’s not blackhat biting at our heels, it’s hackers, hacking unsecured edu.au WP sites and injecting iframe casino url’s. Which skyrocket to the top serps.
Regardless to what Cutts may state, Google has always been, and continues to be open to manipulation. And frankly, I don’t see that changing yet.

Speaking of traffic, it’s not the quantity that matters, it’s the quality.
What we do as affiliates in the gaming industry is worlds apart from that of main stream affiliates. One doesn’t need 1000+ unique a day to make decent income. My flagship .au site averages 250 unique a day and has done for the past 4 years. Albeit, its lost a few top serps thanks to Penguin/Panda etc etc. But it’s now climbing back up. However it’s the sheer number of long tails which produce 90% of my highly targeted money traffic.

This is merely a general observation.
If being a gaming affiliate was easy, everyone would be doing it!
January 8, 2013 at 2:46 am #831366AnonymousInactiveThe more it changes the more it stays the same. People are fighting over those top spots… some dodgy idiots get that top spot… Google boots them after a while… the good guys move back up… until a few more dodgy guys get back to the top with their black hat methods.
I have hit my head against it too many times to count trying to make Google smile and think that my site is the one to put at the top and keep there. Depending on it as only of of your sources of traffic (although very important) will help ease the pressure trying to chase those rankings. Doing the mind shift is not easy, but once there things get a lot easier.

That’s a really good post, well done!
I think we’ve been kinda scammed into thinking it’s Google or your $crewed. But, that’s not the case.
January 8, 2013 at 8:51 am #831370irmacrowstonMemberThanks for all your comments.
As predicted the majority of the dodgy site are moving down but of course someone muppet will crawl out of the woodwork again soon………..battle on.
Would anyone mind enlarging on the info regarding other sources of traffic.
Many thanks
KoloJanuary 8, 2013 at 6:16 pm #831389seedingltdMemberFirst of all I LOVE listening (in my mind) to you crazy Aussies speak with you really cool accents…
Anyway, it really is all about Dave’s point that you only need a few visitors landing with long tail keywords to get a few first dpts. it seems. People like to do more “research” before they spend their money, so they type more into Google search. Would you buy a new memory foam bed by searching “online beds”? You may start there to research and what you find you will likely type back into Google and search again…now your getting closer to a sale.

KoloAfter I finish setting up a mailing list, I’m going to look more closely at PPC advertising.
