I agree it is actually very hard to exchange links. The problem is so many bad sites ask for link exchanges that most people usually delete the requests as they usually aren’t worth the time of a webmaster.

Dont you guys thing that this is one of the major factors for spamming?

I usually submit links to auto-forms (LinkPartners for ex.), therefore the webmasters would see my request every time. I dont use software to build my link pages – 100% html, I use soft. for reciprocal checking only. My website is quite visible, many ranked pages, PR up my donkey, and still – very little responce?!? :suicide:

Or could it be that most webmasters just gave up on link exchange and went to spam? Or is it because they are afraid that I would go higher the SEs, kinda like “I am not going anywhere, but you aint either”…

What bugs me most is that it seems to be industry thing – as I mentioned before – 1 of 2 non-gambling sites will have my link posted the same day…

I’ve had the same issue in the past with only getting around half of the recip. links I expected.

Seems to depend on how you go about exchanging links. If you contact other webmaster here at CAP via PM with a well thought out message, I’ve seen as high as 80% success in exchanging links. If you are searching Google for similar sites and filling out their link request forms, you could be in the 25-30% success range. If you use a link exchange site like Link Metro (I don’t like automated link scripts on my site either) then you can see a 40% or so success rate. These percentages are all approximations.

Also, it can take quite a bit of time sometimes. Many webmasters can take 2-3 months to get to your link request. I’ve seen this in multiple industries, where I take down a link and then a few weeks later get an email from the webmaster saying they couldn’t find their link. Well, yeah, you took 2 months to get around to answering my request.

Well I’d exchange links with your site, mainly because it looks great and seems informative. Unfortunately I also get a lot of spam emails regarding links and most of are from automated spiders and end up in the bin because they are they are just spam, or porn, or have nothing to do with gambling. I have stopped requesting links because it is too much hassle to check them after etc, but if a decent site requests one from me I’ll have it on within a couple of days depending how busy I am.

The thing is in SEO forums we are told that Google devalues off topic links so maybe your site is a testament to the contrary? In any case well done in the serps!

Yeah, unrelated links are not as good as related, but they still count, and you can search on Google and see that websites with 101% unrelated links still rank very good, but I dont think it’s a good long term strategy – maybe you’d have a 2-3 month ride, but after that – hmmm, not so much :D

What grinds my gears is that webmasters would have an automated tool, and still not use it. On my sites – I say it, email me and I’ll let you know; or link to me from such and such page – and I’ll link back.
But I would place their link, and then wait 2 weeks and still get no response…It’s just weird… I have been in this industry for 5 years now, and I have never seen such a dissregard for link exchanges – it’s like allofasudden there is some other factor that matters in long term ranking :banger:

I was just wondering if it’s just websites which rank “OK” and people think that by exchanging links they help the competition or something…

I share the frustration here in regards to the link exchange ethics in this industry. However, I agree that this forum is an excellent way to exchange. I also think that if you know who you are linking to (within this community for example,) then there will be no question on the recip. game.
