    We found it more viable to go dedicated and the server is located in canada. $130 month including 15gb transfer and something like $2 per gig over (never done that).

    Downside is the companies techs charge an arm and a leg so I did a deal with a top tech in exchange for a little site space.

    We have enough room for as many sites as we want and are in company with many of the top casinos.

    Fast and furious…anyone with over 10 sites should consider going dedicated IMHO.

    bigsmile: guess I spoke too soon, I should have know you’d have found the best deal Arkyt.

    Deaning, I’m paying $4 x (I think 12 or 14 sites) which is still much less than $135 a month, not too mention what Arkyt is getting his at.

    that said; am I missing something here that makes the dedicated server a much better deal for us?

    I have both dedicated servers and single hosted accounts with various companies. I do this to ensure that during a server crash or regional dns problem that all of my sites are not effected. So far this works for me even though its certainly not the most economical route to follow.

    For whats its worth BB1 other then cost per account I do not see a distinct advantage in dedicated servers for what 99% of us do. Yes if you have a very complex site and require numerous CRON jobs to run or are heavily automated then the added flexibility is good but again 99% of affiliate portals do not require the added horsepower that dedicated servers can bring to the table.

    Bear in mind this is my observation and oppinion and I am sure one or two angry techies will disagree, but I figure why pay for it if you aint gonna use it?

    Agreed Prof.

    Most webmasters would not need the extra grunt nor expense.

    In our case the location is a good one and in addition to our sites having a traffic exchange and a heavy traffic load and a fair bit of automation, we require the speed and reliability.

    Yep only pay for it if you are gonna use it.

    Jumpline, as suggested earlier, won’t allow gambling sites which is a pity because they have a coule of great VDS packages. Looks like a number of hosts are getting a bit scared.

    Arkyt, i just signed up with prohosters.com and i think this is going to work out really well, all my scripts are working fine and i’ve added 5 domains so far and it seems that each domain gets its own unique IP.

    I don’t know how they can do that for only $15 a month but i’m happy.

    Thanks. :D

    I’m heading over to PH as well, but I notice they are based in Va.

    am I wrong about this? so they won’t be able to host; or is it just a matter of where their server is? and if so; where is their server?

    Prohosters.com sounds like fairly good deal, mainly because of the 100 unique IP addresses for the account.

    Is everyone happy with them, I have 2 issues:

    * Just wondering though, 500 megs of space and 5GB transfers. This might suffice for 5 sites or so but anymore and it’s light.

    * Still US based servers (potential legal issues)

    I’m still looking into working a deal for UK server space but am concerned with UK server performance vs. better US infrastructure and trying to find a great price with unique IP’s for each domain.

    Anyone have any luck in the UK?

    Aleph,

    Let me know what your needs are and since I’m digging around anyways….

    * How many domains
    * Total server space
    * Bandwidth
    * Unique IP’s

    I feel close to getting some good UK hosting, just gotta work out some details.

    Hi,
    I have an interesting solution for anyone looking to get their sites out of the US. I have a friend I’ve known for over 10 years who is doing hosting in Russia. He’s an old programmer friend who is very trustworthy. I have been trying out a site for a month now and the speed has been consistent with anything I’ve hosted in the states. It hasn’t been down yet either.
    If anyone is interested in this, let me know. The prices should be compatible with the US, although it’s been a while since I shopped around.

    Jeff would your site(s) or server be saddled with a Russian or Eastern European IP address? I know search engines and casinos often frown on this….

    Are there any other drawbacks? IE support, Language issues with host? Russian mafia influences? Etc…
