Lets just say I was sweating driving to the airport, right before I got on the plane I took one of these pills, 30 seconds later I couldn’t wait to take off. I was relaxed, throughout the whole flight, had no fears whatsoever. I actually flew directly over my house on take off, and was soo happy to look down and see it, I remember thinking “Wow how neat is this, I’m lucky to be a plane right now, not everyone gets this oppurtunity”.
So the pills work right away? I wonder if they have some on the plane in case of an emergency ‘freak-out’ by a passenger? hehe

Shad LeeMemberYup they sure do.
Its actually a pill for Anxiety, this pill works by slowing down the nerves in the brain (i.e., the central nervous system).
Not that I’m a doctor or anything!!!

I won’t mention any stories.
i’m ok on the plane, but pretty stressed out leading up to my outgoing flight.
As i told many in Barcelona, flying to europe is particularly stressful because for some reason, crashing into the ocean bothers me more than crashing over land.
See I have no problem about the land/water thing, in fact, my thoughts are that if we were to crash in the water we would most likely have a better chance of surviving because I have this idea that the plane would float.. And thinking about it now, it wouldn’t, so there goes that idea… OK now there’s one more thing to worry about.
Chris_Hollywood wrote:Renee,I feel your pain. Its funny because a joke within our company is how I’m so scared to fly.
I never use to be like this until 2 years ago, when something changed in my life.I suffered on flights, I would think about flying EVERY DAY, EVERY HOUR, and worry about it, this occurred even if I knew I had no flights booked for months to come. When I would see a plane in the air, I would get all freaked out. It was the strangest thing.
I was going to visit our Programme Manager about 6 months ago, and I had to get on a 8 man plane, it was windy and… well I’ll leave it at that.
So I come back home and think to myself “I can’t fly anymore, I won’t do it”.
I know everything about planes, stats, sounds, flight paths, turbulence, etc. I studied because I was told by one of my best friends (who fly’s fighter jets for our Military) that the more I knew about it the better I would feel. This still didn’t help.
I was then told to buy some DVD about how safe flying is, I never ended up buying it but I can send you the link if you want..
So that was then… Now I bring you to 5 days before a 12 hour flight to CAPEURO. I was going crazy, and scared for my life. I was told about these “pills” that will calm me down. I went as far as going to see a doctor for a last ditch effort. I explained my fear of flying to her and she said “OK Chris, I’ll give you these pills, see how they work, and when you come home let me know, if you need more you can have more”

To sum it up you should get pills, If you want to PM me or email me I can tell you exactly what you need, trust me you will thank me in London.
I understand everything you wrote and was in the same boat less then a month ago. I now look back to when I was scared to fly and think “Boy oh Boy was I crazy”
Cheers
I think tiring myself out so much that I pass out before the plane has taken off is the best thing I’ve found for me. I had some pretty bad anxiety attacks earlier in the year and got some stuff from the doc which really didn’t do anything. I found going to a health shop and getting some of that natural stuff helped more than the chemicals. Very strange..
I’m glad you’ve found something though. I’m sure one day I’ll get my relief..

Guestfor some reason, crashing into the ocean bothers me more than crashing over land.
(*thanks AM, I needed a laugh today) I HAVE THE ANSWER!
Quite simple actually. Same reason I won’t get on a plane or boat that goes out of sight of the nearest land.
Why? because if the damn things end up putting me in the water … I want to know which way to start swimming!

thanks for the chance to laugh.
… We lost my dad to a drunk driver this last month and dealing with my siblings is a lot like trying to be rational with a religeous always-rightie … doesn’t matter how much you try to speak towards the rational … that only builds their reslolve that they are right and you are wrong and therefore if the people who translated the Bible the 100,000 times its been translated … put it down in the current King James version that starting on Oct 16, 2008 that any sunrise seen from that point on is “really not there” … then you can rest assured that it exactly the situation and that it cannot possibly be that one of those translators may have accidently hit the “n” key instead of the “h” key.
No, it couldn’t possibly have meant “really hot there”.
… sigh.
it is just about that rediculous.

You know, considering I have a real phobia of sharks, I would much prefer to get on a boat that gets stuck in the middle of the ocean than a plane (in fact Helene joked about it when we were on the way to the airport saying that she should have put me on a boat a couple of months ago to get to CAP Euro).
I went on a cruise back when I was 18 for schoolies (this is what we call our end of school party thing in Oz) and I was fine. No anxiety… Even though I knew there was a possibility of the boat sinking.. And I was on it for 10 days. I have a feeling though that it’s because I know I am a great swimmer and there is no real trauma involved in the sinking… If I could get off the boat and swim away I will be fine… until the sharks come.
PS – Sorry to hear about your dad mate. *hugs from Oz*

GuestAlmost forgot.
those little pills you spoke about … I imagine they’re Xanax or possibly Valium, most likely Xanax.
and yes, especially if you don’t take them often … they will make you okay with just about anything.

Stephen JonesMemberI agree with all the people who have to fly over from the States/Canada (ey) because for some reason, there is ALWAYS turbulence above the Atlantic Ocean.
Last year, myself and the GF were on our way to Costa Rica, we got woken up with a couple of bumps which were pretty okay, until 5 minutes into the bumps, the Captain asked the flight staff to take their seats because there was no way around the turbulence. Next thing, BANG, up down, up down, for a solid 15 minutes. I seriously thought the wings were gonna fall off it was so bad. Not only did the gf crush my hand to shit, but the person on the other side of me was doing pretty much the same to my other hand without even knowing it!
So, flying is not one of my fave things in the world and I also often have dreams I am in a plane and it is falling out of control. They are really not the best dreams to have, but I think for people in this industry where you need to travel more than most, you will more often than not find that you will also have these dreams.
Nothing worse than the dreaded elevator dropping dreams though. Had another one of those bastard dreams last night!! They are like a weekly dream for me these days!
Regarding the pills… Renee – Just be careful not to do what I did with sleeping pills. I always thought a few G&T’s and a small bottle of wine with dinner would help me relax a little before i popped a sleeping pill until one time when I was flying to Vegas and woke up about an hour after the thing had kicked in and I asked the air hostess for some water cause I was REALLY thirsty. When i looked again, she was nowhere and the girl sitting next to me was looking at me with this odd look on her face. When I asked if there was an air hostess there, she said no, she did not know who I was talking to. LoL!!

Now elevators is the ONE of the very few fears that I’ve discovered I have. I never get on an elevator alone. I will either wait for someone to get on with me (95% of the time) or I’ll take the stairs even if it is 40 floors.
Years ago I got stuck alone on the 40th floor in an elevator. Once I picked up the phone to call for help and found out that the ‘maintenance’ team was not onsite I started to lose it, but the operator stayed on the phone with me when they realized that I was not handling the situation very well. LOL
