Hi Marc,
I remember you from days gone by… welcome to CAP.
Alex – is Marc the person you were talking about in that CAP thread you linked? I am a little confused here. Please explain in detail for us.
Let’s get this resolved, no name calling please. :hattip:
Uh I’m Pretty sure I clearly stated that one of the Rakeback sites in his sig belongs to armchair, owners of RTR and a bunch of TM abusing domain names. I’m not sure what Marc’s relationship w/ this company is as he claims he’s just an affiliate … of course he asked for the proof of trademark abuse, after he accused me of Libel, I gave it and he shuts up. end of story.
Obv not man enough to comment when he gets callled out.Lie down with dogs and you get up with fleas IMO.

InactiveHi marc – Good to see you here and hopefully meet up for more beers soon!
Alex – I see your point but reckon there could be a more tactful way to deal with it – Marc can’t be expected to know everything so jumping on him after his first post was maybe a little strong.
Anyway at the end of the day and to be absolutely honest its up to the brands to deal with this as after all its their T&C’s and their brand – From that other thread they are of course aware of it and for all we know there could be deals in place we aren’t aware of or processes in place again that we aren’t aware of. If there isn’t then of course it isn’t fair on you as affiliate if they do nothing but in that case you need to act with your feet and not promote that brand or alterantively just do the same and see what happens.
Thats my 2 cents and again welcome Marc – Hopefully you will stick around and get involved

poshatMemberHi Mr P,

AlexPratt.. the replies here (yours included) only affirm what an oldboys’s club CAP is, as if there was ever any doubt…
If someone was p*ssing on your parade by doing a variety of illegal and immoral stuff, or associated with any entity doing so, I daresay you would call them out, and that being tactful would be the last thing on your agenda.
So yeh, y’all sit on the fence and watch immoral scumbags profit by breaking the rules which you adhere to.. give them a smiley face, heck buy them a drink and smile at them wondering when they will screw *you* and your enterprise over.
Obv a lot of the people replying in this thread believe that there are No friends in business, and all’s fair in love and war….
The fact that when challenged and presented with a smoking gun this guy Marc just ignores everything and replies to all the retarded welcome to the forum comments is highly amusing.. (what else would you call them when the guy is clearly associated w/ dubious practices)?
excuse me for not being a spineless, apathetic Capper, It’s not how I roll.

And IMO that makes you one of CAP’s most important contributors. I always read your posts and give them thought. You always have good points.
Sometimes though things are not what they seem – while raketherake didn’t post, he did thank my post about “sometimes brands give permission”. Food for thought.
In that case there is nothing illegal or immoral, someone had an idea and went to the brands with it and they liked it. You could do that too. Anyone with a good idea can and should approach the programs with it, in this case apparently it involved using the brand name. But it could be any old idea…
As far as the old boy club goes, I only met Marc at a conference or two, some 5 or 6 years ago or more, and we exchanged no more than maybe ten sentences. Hardly an old boy’s club, just a blast from the past… the old conferences were a different breed. Actually you would have loved it – issues were brought up and aired publicly and discussed. I bet some of the programs didn’t like it so much.

neophyteMemberfair doo’s dom, It doesn’t vex me personally much – I still do very nicely out of my affil biz and have many fingers in pies – I just got on my soapbox as self-appointed defender of the Affil faith, and to make affils /marketeers aware of this crap that is going on [in all verticals I might add].
So, the issue here isn’t about me or my sites (however in this case the offender does happen to be in the same sub-niche as one of my sub-niches)…. it’s all about the struggle of YOU the Legit affils vs the the Non-Legit, rulebreaking, anything-to-get ahead affils.
As a community of Affils and AMs, we should put all of our strength and support towards making sure that these rule-bending affils/superaffils don’t get away with murder just because they are big, not inviting them to go for a beer.

InactiveAlex, you definitely have a valid point and I am sure no one here would want to restrict you in making your point. Dom is just trying to manage the discussion here so that we have a mature and meaningful discussion instead of an open for all. You have been around for a long time and know what I mean.
Many companies/operators across various verticals which allow one affiliate or a handful of affiliates to use TM names in the domain and also bid on the brand. Affiliates will have no control on the policies of these companies, though they can influence it in some ways. I guess raising this issue with the respective brands would yield better results.
Welcome to CAP, Marc.

InactiveAgreed, except I’ll still go for a beer with any aff or program and toss things around a bit.
My grandma was a wise woman in her way, and she always told me to go and get a man drunk before forming an opinion. Works for me :3eyes:
