InactiveA huge gamble (forgive the pun) spending money on those for two reasons: firstly we don’t know how Google will treat the “.ME” extension – it has no local search option so it will probably compete for SERPS with .com and .net and that puts it at a big disadvantage. Secondly, .ME is really there for “personal” sites, so I guess over time we could find the generic terms devalued and unable to compete with commercial sites for commercial searches.

InactiveBut 90% of those names went to domain speculators. That’s not to say they won’t sell them to other speculators later, but I was talking about end-users. A few will go for the brandable ones but you have more chance of making money with “poke.me” than “poker.me” uless you sell to a speculator LOL

IMO an end user would be silly paying that money. Besides which you look at the Top 20 SERPS on Google for casino and you won’t ever see anything but .com, .net or .org (the odd .co.uk for major brands). .ME doesn’t stand a chance IMO.
And finally from this time next year the new ICANN initiative comes in where you can have pretty much any extension you like…that alone will probably devalue .ME, .info etc hugely as it expands. Who would want casino.ME when they can have anything.casino ?
Highly risky decision paying big bucks on .ME, but just my opinion :hattip:

InactiveWell i still think you are wrong.
Godaddys had the most domain sale ever on one day for .me domains.
big firms like Apple are buying them and see a future in them:>Businesses such as Apple are getting into the “me” attitude with their me.com domain name as well as registrations for apple.me and itunes.me.<
Regarding the the new ICANN initiative
Only VERY few firms will be able buy the domains from the ICANN initiative
Fist of all the ICANN initiative names are coming up on auction and the winner has to put up mega servers.
I asked a exspert about this and he said it will cost nearly $1 million a year to have a name like @casino ine manage costs. Plus every time you renew the domain like .casino we taking 100,000’s $ to renew
We talking BIG BIG money to be able to buy the new ICANN initiative domains.
So they will have nearly none efect on the domain marked.August 21, 2008 at 10:36 pm #776415Anonymous

So they will have nearly none efect on the domain marked.Regarding the costs though, $1 million is peanuts compared to what can be made. If you just look at the .me domains you listed above, there’s $ 1/2 million just there in those 20 or so names. Another 20 like that and you have your money back. And with millions of potential combinations, extensions like .gambling, .travel and .porn will fly out the door with plenty others to follow. It’s a licence to print money. In fact, all domain extensions are

For domains to perform in search engines, they need to rank and the way Google, Yahoo and MSN are set up it’s base mainly on localisation. This makes .me an orphan. The day you see a .me domain in the Top 10 SERPS on Google for “casino” is the day I take back everything I said. But it will never happen, so I’m safe
And without the Top 10, there’s no traffic. And no traffic = no revenue.Unless you have a “brand” that you spend a lot of time and money marketing, and Apple can afford to throw a few million at that, then I still believe the only chance you have of making money from them is by selling them to other people who think they can sell them to other people…

All that said and done though, domain speculators are speculating (I’m one of them)…so no harm in that. Some will pay, others won’t. The registrars laugh all the way to the bank, we have some fun buying and selling (or trying to) and everyone’s happy.

PerThornMember.com is and will always be king (in my opinion!)
all these .travel, .asia, .casino, .porn, .xxx, .info have all gone down the drain. What makes you think if you can change the variable at the back makes it any different?

I agree .com rules – for the foreseeable future at least. And .net probably second when looking for a global audience. Primarily because those two are designated commercial doman extensions, where a lot of others aren’t The .info extension (where .me drops into line) does have it’s uses in the “long tail” – less competitive terms, but would need a bucketload of money and/or TLC (SEO TLC that is) to rank among the high-value terms.
Actually, .asia, along with .eu, are also commercially recognised and I think there is a long-term future there too. The .xxx extension along with others was dropped as an idea but is effectively being resurrected wih the “anything goes” extension strategy due next year.
The hardest one to evaluate is .mobi. I can understand why ppl would speculate there, although I chose not too myself, but a lot depends on whether or not mobile operators integrate the extension into their devices as a default extension over time. If they do – it has a big future, if not then it is just another extension trying to compete in a .com world.

InactiveThanks friends for your opinion.
But i still think .me will very be hot(they are already if one look at auction prices)
casino.me, insure.me, partner.me, lasvegas.me, poker.me they all very easy to remember and the internet is all about ME and YOU like: myspace.com
reg >>For domains to perform in search engines<<
If you look msn you will see for top word http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=online+casino&FORM=MSNHYou will see http://www.onlinecasino.co.in listed as one of the highest and thats and Indian domain. Also if you look news it is English speaking countries:
“We believe the huge demand for .ME reflects the public interest in having a personal connection with the Web,” said Predrag Lesic, the Registry’s Executive Director. “From interesting topics, to organization names, to brands, .ME sites give personality to the content on the Web sites associated with them.
” More than 100 registrars currently offer .ME domains through their registration platform. .ME has seen its greatest interest among English-speaking countries, including the United States (71%), the United Kingdom (6%), Canada (4%) and Australia (2%). More than a thousand auctions are currently open for popular .ME domains, with the highest bid over $90,000.
Anyway time will tell:hattip:
