I posted this here because I agree with Lou that we have beat on that affiliate program quite well… and they get the point.

    ===========================================

As a side bar, I guess this whole ugly incident brings us to the ONE aspect of this buisness that money can’t buy, and key word density won’t help, and flash banners won’t cover up: Reputation.

What comes to mind when I say Casino Bar? Yup… Will they ever recover? I don’t think so… they are freekin’ paying $9 a click on vague PPC terms usually the sole dominion of webmasters…. why? Well, try to find their banners on a portal! They have no choice but to buy traffic at this point… if they want to stay in business.

Let’s consider Prism Casino… They have a long time bad webmaster reputation for shaving and missing funds. What are they doing? They had to recruit an entire new marketing firm, headed up by someone we already knew and respected (the lovely and sweet Connie Burnstein) to try to salvage the image. I like Connie, and am now watching to see how things pan out…

Let’s consider Windows Casino… A long time bad reputation with webmasters and players for non-payment. Recently, Mark Friedman has made very strong efforts to turn that ship around when he tried to join GPWA and did join APCW. But there’s still work ahead of him, although it’s refreshing to see this concern from upper management.

Even myself! Yes, ME…. I have had to remove certain casinos from my websites… even though they were making me good money… even though I never received one complaint personally… Why? Guilt by association.

Wager 21 is a prime example. I sent them over 100 player with purchases last year without ONE complaint. I researched the net to find negative comments on them… most of which are suspiciously confined to two portals I will not mention. Are they being promoted on my site now? No… and why? Because the income I generated was not worth the association (Congratulations Bryan, you did it). Whether the rumours are true or provable at this point is moot.

And so we are back to the point: Wager 21 is NOT on my site (guilty or innocent) because my reputation is the one thing I will never be able to recover if I lose it.

Like it or not, this is the truth of the industry.

I’m kind of lost, but with regards to Wager 21 …
I stopped promoting them too and I saw a large commission
from the short time I did promote their casinos…..I stress “short time (VERY SHORT) time I promoted them..but like you said guilty by association and I didn’t want to risk that.

So yeah that’s what i think (If that’s even what this is about)

    lol

Reputation and honor is the only thing a person has that no one can take away. It’s the only thing you CAN take with you after life.

You can sell it or give it up, but its truly the only thing you will ever have thats yours and yours alone.

While flawed the rumourmill style of it’s about reputation has a simple benefit – the good thing is everyone has a chance to gain and keep a good reputation..

    Priceless.

It keeps all the blackhats at bay.. All the way from affiliates to computer manufacturers down to search engines – they all need a good rep to survive the long haul.

As clearly portrayed by Mr Todd. Repute cannot really be bought but it does cost.

Someone’s reputation for integrity and honesty goes a long way and their actions say even more.

I had a recent experience where I sent someone a private and confidential email meant for them only. It appears as though they did not wish to correspond with me and instead of just letting me know- which I would have understood, they decided to send my email, included the headers with my ip information to someone I am currently in litigation with and who continues to harrass me. Of course they knew about the situation pending, and nevertheless had no right to send anyone my confidential email much less my ip information. The hack attempts on my home network have naturally multiplied since that time. I hardly know this person but they surely didn’t display a basic understanding of ethics and have caused me unnecessary grief.

As far as my site is concerned, I definitely try to only maintain ads for those properties who I know will provide a good experience for players. If there is a reputation for nonpayment or an affiliatation with a group that is known to not pay clients, I refuse to carry them. This has cost me ad revenue but I feel I owe it to my patrons to ensure their experience in gaming is always a positive one from my portal – this is what keeps them coming back.

    :)

Sorry to hear that magy. Violating a confindence is a pretty good indicator that the person you wrote to has no idea what Integrity is.

Pity, but the world is full of soul less beings.

    Prof,

You stepped into the little trap which “Magy” set out for you… The individual she’s referring to is me.

No worries… most of her post is paranoid conjecture, at best…. and at worst a desperate attempt to gain back some of her own reputation at my expense.

The way she raves on and on is akin to lace lined invitation to her private pity party. When, in truth, the actual event was far less dramatic and her own fault.

If you know who this person is, great. If not, I wont mention her name…. otherwise (in her mind) I will have once again violated her sacred right to privacy…. even though she’s the one spilling her guts in a public forum.

Magy, I don’t think you want to open this up here.

Well you lot can argue all day but I was gonna go on about the hidden power of the webmaster going against the flow of the rogue casino operator.

A pet subject of mine – for all – regardless of personal stuff.

    Anyway.
