Simmo! we have a lot of discussions up here now and we cant have EVERYTHING piled up in one forum. As moderators we have to place threads in the proper area so that we dont get everything congested.

People are replying to your post in the proper forum so relax…

Most of us use “new posts” Simmo. Most read all the posts.

I have and I am just not interested in automated linking at all. I only do a few, hard coded, visible links on the bottom of each page. I don’t believe in link pages of any kind for myself.

I think it may be useful to newer pages though.

    Hi Simmo!,

To be honest I probably would not use something like this. I exchange links by hand, and thus far I haven’t felt the need to do it any other way. It sounds like an interesting idea, but it isn’t something I see myself taking advantage of at this point. Sorry! :bored:

Thanks for taking the time to feedback guys. I’m not sure i am fully explaining myself well enough though as I am struggling to see a downside to it :)

Let me clarify a few things just to be sure:

    • This could work alongside your existing links campaigns, or “instead of”, your call
    • It would “self-build”, expand dynamically and require zero maintenance.
    • It would mean you never need to check that sites linking to you were actually doing so – which to me is the biggest hassle of all as I’m always finding people drop my links without telling me.
    • It would generate new links pages in a directory style structure “on the fly” to ensure pages had a max of 40 links, they were structured and only one link from the site homepage

I think maybe i ought to put a demo together to make it clearer. What do you think?

    Cheers

    Yes that could be interesting.

Simmo, I think it is likely a very good idea for newer pages that are looking for ranking.

It is just not how I do things – I would never link to a site that I have not seen and whose owner I do not know. And I don’t like link pages. I avoid the dropped link bit by listing to people I trust. And it’s educational to visit the sites of my peers occasionally. Since I only link to a handful per page, it’s no big deal for me.

If I had any new pages I would consider it for sure.

I am always interested in more self-updating promotional feeds, and also in tournament feeds. I think tournaments would be really hot if publicized widely and consistently. I don’t mean competitions as to who drops the most money, but real tournaments. I think if the casinos had a better ad outlet for these, they would conduct more and they would be a big hit in all types of games. I would have also liked to have your payout feed, but I don’t ever allow other people’s links on my sites, it confuses things too much. If you were to charge a nominal fee instead I would jump in with both feet.

an idea: What about a membership driven feed where we can view all the programs, the salient points in their T&Cs, and be notified when any of them change… This has kind of become a necessity for affiliates.

Ok I’m kinda guessing that there wouldn’t be enough interest in this which is a shame as it sounded like quite a challenging and useful development.

So how about a simple system that allowed you to keep a check on sites that link to you and make sure they are? Just something simple – a PHP script that uses a text file you maintain containing links of pages that contain a link back to you. You run the PHP script every once in a while and it tells you if your link is still present on the other persons page?

Dom: More info on this Tournament Tracker idea? Sounds like it could be a good one to build into Casinofeed.

    Cheers

I think it’s a really great idea, and I would use it – however I think most “older” webmasters here either use some sort of program already or only do quality link exchanges manually.
Again I think it would be a great tool for new webmasters and new sites – but you have to decide if it is worth your while to develop…I had similar thoughts a few months ago, but decided it just wasn’t worth it.

If you choose to work on it you might be able to get a few ideas from xhttp://www.tartools.com/ (they just evaluate PR and outgoing links)

As to tournaments it is more complicated than you could imagine. I looked into it when we were working on the poker tournament feed. Most casinos don’t list their blackjack tournaments etc. anywhere except within their own application, which means you either have to get the data from the casino themselves (this is off course an option since you already have contacts at most of the casinos)
    – or extract them from the application itself…extracting dynamic data from a foreign application isn’t that difficult, but if you need to do it to 20-50 casinos…extract it, systematize it and provide…well that a hell of a job. And then every time an application is updated you need to redo the extraction…

I still think it’s a good idea as is for newer sites.

I would love to have a simple link checker. I trust each person I have exchanged links with, but there are always possibke oversights when remodeling one’s sites…

I think you need to ask the programs which of their casinos run these tournies…. sone do already run regular slots tournies etc. Maybe blackjackinfo has some more info too. And I think they should beencouraged to run tournies.

I think it needs to be it’s own feed though if its going to get the attention it should…
