Is selling links still a safe enough practice?

You’ll be fine selling only 4 links. Big sites need link juice just like anyone else. Personally I don’t think they pay enough but if you need some cash I say go for it.

    Some tips:
add the link into NEW text. Don’t just turn a word of your existing text into a link.
make sure they pay for at least 6 months in advance. they’ll try to do a 3 month deal.

    Hi fonzi

Thanks for you quick response. You’re right, am not going to lie about it – they are offering a measly 30 EUR for 3 months, however, placing their link in a subpage rather than the homepage, which I would not want to do anyway. I’ll try to squeeze them for a better deal.

So, as I mentioned, they are intending to put a link on my page. Is there anything major I need to consider there? I may have used the wrong terminology stating that I am ‘selling links’. I guess it’s more like I’m selling them a ‘position’ on my site. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    Thanks again

    “selling a position”

Or how about an ‘administrative service fee for coding changes’
It’s the same thing and won’t fool anyone.
But such a term is better if you want to avoid ‘red flags’.

And it goes to show you that links and link buying are still very much needed to be successful.

Ps – If they contacted you directly I’d view it as a ‘vote of confidence’ in your site.

I doubt only selling 4 would get you into trouble but I would still try and haggle for a better price

OUCH! Even on an inner page thats a very low price!

When determining a price I would also consider the keywords they want to use.

    Thanks everyone for your input!

Really helpful. I guess it shows that unless you manage to get a reasonably good deal out of it, it’s just not worth the hassle – 30 EUR buys you two rounds at most ;-)

I’ve amended my ‘price list’ for placements considerably and threw it back at another agency that is out to strike a deal. Let’s see what happens…

Personally I wouldn’t risk it given the mood Google is in lately. But that’s your choice!
