It can’t do any harm, so can either do nothing OR be a good thing! Not bad odds.

No. IMHO, it’s important for affilaite programs only.

How does it help exactly? Does any affiliate program require you to have this approval?

Most of the affiliate portal approvals and/or certifications are peer-based reviews.

They check the site for original content (no copying), no spamming, no blackhat SEO, no selling daabases, no adult content etc. Generally having the “seal displayed” reflects that the webmaster is running the site in a good way, and behaving like a good internet citizen.

They may help with link exchanges with other sites, as most sites are usually more likely to do so with a site that has been approved by the same portal. They may help visitors to know that the website is not behaving in a “Rogue” manner.

They are not a requirement for affiliate programs.

I think that for affiliate programs is important to be CAP /GPWA approved (because more webmasters will know about them :) ), and in general approved does not mean good, it’s like advertising :)

Players in general know nothing about CAP /GPWA :)

For link exchanges, CAP /GPWA approval may be important for new sites, but first other webmasters will check you PR/SE ranking :)

I’ll just ad that any sort of credentials you can ad to your site will help with the trust factor for your visitors. No affiliate program I’m aware of would require you to be GPWA/CAP approved.
