Have to visit the page first and then cut and paste the link from the
address bar not from the referring source.February 21, 2007 at 6:33 am #728174Anonymous

GuestOnline gambling is a growing problem, I think the FBI estimates that it’s growing at a rate of $10 billion a year,” said Patrick Kiernan, FBI special agent.
A multi-billion dollar industry that’s illegal.
Recently, U.S. lawmakers banned online gambling in the U.S. with the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.
That act put an end to Internet casinos based in the U.S. So those casinos took their business to foreign countries.
It’s known as offshore gambling and it’s a way to get around the law, proving traditional borders don’t exist when it comes to the worldwide Web.
And that allows Americans like Brian to continue playing.
multi billion a year that’s illegal.
Bull shit! to my knowledge. this has yet to be proven. its sports that proven illegal .
is that not correct?
ps.

nick777MemberSorry about the link screw up. Thanks G – I learn something everyday! Although the journalist is obviously not on target with the law, my favoriate quote:
Kiernan says there’s just too many other crimes to worry about.
“Most people don’t realize that there is only a little over 12,500 agents in the FBI for the entire country, and we are responsible for protecting 300 million people. So there are not too many of us around, so we have to prioritize our cases,” said Kiernan

InactiveYeah, the journalist did not do a whole lot of research on the subject, she stated some misconceptions concerning the UIGEA as fact such as online gambling is now illegal because of the bills passage. Also, which online casinos were based in the U.S. and then moved in October?
And finally, what is this middleman shit?
Your right Ziggy, it was worth to read just for the quote from the fbi saying they have better things to worry about – I would have to say “No Shit” to that – glad somebody in law enforcement finally said that.

InactiveNothing like a local station getting on top of the story, a couple years late.
If you live in secondary media market, you’ll also be surprised to know george bush was reelected in 2004 and the Germanies reunited a few years back! LOL
