InactiveI can’t see how you would be liable, even in America
Question
Were the keys in the car, was the car running, etc, what exactly happened, not that it should matter legally if the car was on your property, but if you leave a car running on the street or at a gas station the laws might vary
You should have partial insurance coverage, like i have on cars i dont drive, which is less than $10/month, in case of theft/fire, or maybe something in your homeowners policy
That is a rough break if you get stuck with a bill
Can’t imagine you would, especially if they caught the kid, what state are you in

InactiveI’m in Oregon.. yeah never even thought of that insurance for cars that you don’t drive, likely because i do drive it
.. but that woulda been a good idea..The police did catch the guy.. and come to find out.. he didn’t just hit the one car.. a neighbor had thought that he heard him hit another, but i checked the car’s parked near it, and they were all fine..
Well while he was burnin those cookies.. he wiped out the neighbors fence, and smashed their truck up pretty good too.. My car is a lil tiny 2 door, so I’m sure it’s not drivable anymore.
Anyway, naw the keys weren’t in it, but it is a stick, and an older one.. his ‘key’ or screwdriver actually, is still layin in the street in front of my house.

InactiveMy car theif is on his way to the hospital.. police dog’s do get hungry
Hope he doesn’t get off for exsessive force
anyway.. My husband was able to drive it out of the street, and park it at the curb, that’s it for tonight, gotta get that flat fixed before i bring it home… he didn’t get real far.. about 10 blocks from my house. So anyway, this brought me a giggle… The poor idiot (high on meth by the way) steals my car, that is a stick, that he obviously doesn’t know how to drive.. flattens the tire almost immidiately, and then get’s chewed up by a police dog.. atleast I’m not the only one having a bad night

InactiveWe like happy endings.

I once watched Santa Claus total my neighbor’s cherished convertible on Christmas morning. What a mess that was.

InactiveSorry to hear of your bad fortune, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the mental picture anyway. It reminded me of the time my little brother dared me to drive one of my older brother’s cars that had a stick. I was 13 at the time and obviously stupid. We lived in a rural area and by the time I got half way ‘around the block’ (many miles) I was praying out loud. Kept stalling the thing, grinding noises trying to shift, the whole thing. It’s a miracle I didn’t run into anything. I was never so happy to be home and was half surprised the transmission didn’t fall out the next time my older brother drove it.
