poluroud20MemberI think .co.uk domains are very useful – especially if you are targetting a UK audience.
As a British person, I prefer .co.uk than .com but that is my preference.
I would say go for it!

KamielMMemberCheers Chris – I’ve just gone and taken the plunge, it’s only a few quid I suppose.
Should be good. Despite having spent a while working on a slightly larger site, I think this might be the first one to properly get off the ground as it will be a lot smaller!

aaronsmithMemberI tend to only pick .com just for the reason they are the oldest and the ones everyone knows. Some of the older generation still forget about .co.uk but not .com so I tend to stick to it. Plus they are always devising new domain endings for other countries etc so I tend to stick to the original. Yet many uk people like .co.uk as they know it is a uk site and may pick it as they can relate to it.

Inactive.co.uk (or any country specific suffix) is useful if you’re trying to emphasise that you’re local rather than international.
It often works best when associated with local print media publications.

giftorgbestMemberIf you based on UK market, .co.uk is a good choice. the search results will be ahead than .com domain on google.co.uk

triplecrownMemberI’m targeting the UK and my .co.uk domains (hosted as well in the UK).. rank higher than the .com domain counter part in the UK.
If your branding, then only go for the .com, but if your domains are keyword phrases then go for the .co.uk for your targeted UK traffic.

No they won’t.
Take a look at any search term at google.co.uk and you will see an intermingling of .com with .co.uk
having a .co.uk suffix does not automatically go ahead of a .com suffix.

True. But where you host the domain is an important factor. If you have .co.uk, host it in the UK.
Incidentally, Google Webmaster Tools now hs a facility to tell Google your target audience for each domain. Not tried it – no idea of the impact, but an interesting and IMO positive development as until now Google has chosen for you.

Inactiveyep..where u host the domain is the main weighting behind googles ‘geo targetting’…
But if you are targetting the UK..for public perception then I’d HIGHLY recommend obtaining the .co.uk if you can.

InactiveThe domain name and hosting play a part – putting a registered office address on the page or all of the pages wil localize your site as well however the only thing that will rank you is good quality relevant content .
It matters not where a page is hosted if your site is not going to rank.
If you get to the stage where you are ranking well and you are looking to localize you can always use subdomains hosted in those particular areas . A little bit more expensive but there you go .
Three years ago i was buying .co.uk domains left right and centre and i had people telling me i was crazy as it was a worthless domain . Now whose laughing . The domain carries weight but content is king
