We turned off automatically accepting any coments or trackback that contained url links.
That still means a lot of manual vetting – but if the spammers are not getting any benefits then eventually they give up.
(err … usually).

you could choose to approve these comments before they are published on your blog. don’t approve spammer’s comments.

I blocked any comments a log time ago, and now I found that the main spam was trackback. I installed WP Hardened Trackback plugin, and it helps me.
But I’m still receiving a lot of hits, hope soon this will be finished.As was mentioned if you just switch on “moderation” of comments in WP there will be no more trackback spam that gets through.
I use spam karma also, it eats all the spam. try that see if works as well for you.
I have serious issue with my directory http://www.luxaco.com and it is driving me mad .this same guy fromc hina for one month has been spamming 100+ entries a day.I set the site to automatically upload the links because people tend to get upset if they pay for entry itno a directory and you are sleeping lol.Does anyone know how to block ips on directories.
