    The previous 3 volumes have all given examples of what I personally (emphasis on personal opinion) consider poor attempts at obtaining link partners.

    Its not my intention to depict that my personal procedures are the only way to accomplish the goal, but I will say that I think my system is fair for both entities involved in the exchange.

    How to Request a link …

    You should always visit and browse the site prior to requesting a link exchange i.e. know something about the site your proposing to be your partner. If the site has absolutely nothing in common with yours – don’t make the request. IE if your site deals with porn, or prescriptions don’t ask me to add your link to my roulette site!

    Once you know something you should be able to create a worthy description with title when you add my link on your site prior to submitting your request. Since you also already have reviewed my site you will have been able to place the link on a similar rated page. If you see my link page is a PR5 for example you wont place my link on your #6 links page, which only has a PR2.

    Also – MAKE sure your links page(s) can and are being crawled by robots. If your using some sorta scripting you may need to place this info in your.htaccess file to insure that the bots can parse the pages.

    When submitting the request it is important to make it friendly (first impressions are everything.) Don’t pressure or imply in any way that you demand or require anything in return. Remember your requesting to become the partner of the other site.

    Supply all the pertinent info in your request … tell them a little about your site give a description, a title, and the link. Also make sure you provide information as to where the reciprocal link can be found. Provide contact information so that if they are interested in the exchange they can contact you if any changes in their already placed links are required.

    Don’t over stuff your description or title with keywords! If your site is craps-casinos-online-casinos-roulette-slots-casinos.com don’t ask that your title be “online casinos” heh! Don’t describe your site as the #1 or the very best – that’s most likely an exaggeration.

    After submitting a request give them a few weeks – we all know how full our boxes can become with these request. So set back and be patient – leave it up to the other site as to whether or not they wish to reciprocate. If your site is worthy – I would think you’ll have no problem getting the exchange. If you have not heard anything after a few weeks send out a reminder of the request … if after an additional week you still have not seen proof of a reciprocal link being placed and/or you have not heard back from the other site – remove the link you have placed.

    =========

    Next release – what to do when you get a request ….

    PS I went back and edited all the sites in my examples – I didnt think I should make an example out of any 1 webmaster as I have seen all of those examples dozens if not hundreds of times.

    Brian, I enjoyed reading those :) Gotta say I’ve seen them all too and sometimes they aggravate the heck out of me.
    The best was this guy that emailed requesting we front page link exchange a few of our poker sites, his was a PR5, so are ours so I did it. Then a few days later I got this email from him.

    Hello… we have moved your link to another pr5 page with only a few outgoing links

    LOLOL I wrote him back and said I couldn’t leave him on the front pages if he didn’t have ours on the front page. He wrote back (can’t find that email tho) saying basically “What’s the difference they’re both PR5” I just removed him..what an ass!

    online-casino-blackjack-gambling-strategy-rules-tips-guides.com

    Said their site had been optimized by some SEO guru that guaranteed them a top 10 position in the SERPs …

    I didnt even see them in the top 10 for the domain name string. LMAO!
