    Nothing

If the backlinks are unrelated then they wont do much good. In fact could do some damage

I don’t think they can do damage. How about making a page on your portal that blends casinos and the relevant topic and have the PR7 homepage pointing to that?

Agreed, but there must be some value in another industry… stick with the topic. Never hurts to branch out a little into other industries…

Forget “PR7” for a moment as that could be clouding your judgement.

If the site is being sold then you have to ask why, maybe its tricked google into getting to that meaningless figure in an an attempt to then get decent money by advertising on it/selling it to people still obsessed by visable PR.

Look at the quality of the back links and how they have got there – are they genuine or bought etc.

But even then they will only have real long term effect if they are pointed at a relevant site.

If you buy it in the hope of boosting your site, it could do damage i think – say you have a casino site which has genuine on topic casino links to it and it suddenly gets thousands of ladies shoes links – how will google think thats natural!

In the situation I outlined it wouldn’t suddenly have thousands of ladies shoe links, but the homepage for the ladies shoes site would have a link to an article on the portal featuring, say, a woman who sells lucky shoes to casino players. From that shoe/casino mixture the pagerank feeds out to the rest of the portal which is now relevant due to the casino element in the story, hopefully boosting the site.. no?

The problem is when there is a suddenly a gambling link on the site, the PR might drop significanty. Its not a good idea to link from a non-gamlbing site to a gambling site.

Is it proven that gambling sites are blacklisted to an extent by google?

Not per se that I know of. But they do have the google reputation of being the spammiest category…

look into the seoMoz rank of the site as well, dont rely on PR… I even had most of my pages pr6 at one time for no reason lol..

As past owner of 22 pr7 and 1 pr8 website ,I can share my own buy and sell experiences ,A pr7 site in technology section goes for $10,000 -$20,000USD.These sites are useful for people like myself who sell Adobe Software and other Scripts. If you are talking about a PR7 dropped domain from Snapnames or the like you will get them for $1600 -$4000 depending how many bidders.I only used one site for some gambling links and got nailed in google and made pr3 for about 2 years,we cleaned off the site and now have pr6.
I would never waste my money or my Pagerank to link to gambling sites ,Once you go over pr6 you are on a radar IMO.
