Top Betting LinesMemberHey everybody
Just wanting to give this thread a kickstart, hence no one left a response here. Asked the same question a few weeks ago over at GPWA and it turned into quite a good discussion with the odd piece of great advice, (so I think anyway):
Cheers

I think the answer depends on your own website. (google trust, domain age etc) For me, the key is that your backlink profile looks naturally to google. Nothing else.Especially for new(er) websites you should start with low quality and just a added backlinks. No new website gets ten PR5 backlinks from authority sites within first year. No natural backlink profile => no serp changes on the long term.
The more google trust, more visitors etc your website has, the more you can concentrate on high quality backlinks. One good backlink in natural backlink profile will help more than 10 good backlinks in an unnatural bl profile.
Same regarding the number of backlinks. 100 new backlinks for a 1 week old website within first month will not help a lot. 100 new linking websites to an established website will surely increase the rankings.

CasinoCouponsMemberThe trick is to stay under the radar, especially with a newer site. I’ve experimented with lots of different configurations over the last few months and noticed that its possible to rank for very long tails without any backlinks as long as the site is regularly updated with fresh content.
Older sites or sites set up on aged domains can take some backlinking, but less is more right now. Each site is an individual case, so its really hard to generalise over what is right or wrong. Sergej said it right – unnatural looking links can cause problems, so try and keep the link profile natural looking and err on the side of caution.

InactiveI have an old domain ( lametco.com ) with a pr2 that has 8 edu links plus others.
But pr gives it no advantage in traffic because it has no revenue to it.
I wonder why I keep it.May 11, 2013 at 9:10 am #833056
CasinoCouponsMemberYeah, PR doesn’t affect serp ranking much if at all. I have PR4 sites that don’t rank for anything but PR0s that do.
It’s down to relevance, authority and some luck I guess. But then, trying to second guess Google is anyone’s guess right now.

Funny you should say that, that is the problem today, GPWA has better forum and CAP has better articles and news. Can they join forces or something ?

migsMemberNot an easy question to answer, because it really depends on the web site. After the latest Penguin update, it looks like quality is more important than quantity. I would just focus on getting high quality links from within your niche, and see how things progress over time.

mjollyMemberGoogle works in mysterious ways, seen sites with low pr and low inbound links outrank quality sites with tons of links, to me google seems like a lottery

244DreambrokersMemberI think its more important then ever to make sure you are diverse in your link building but a bit picky at same time making sure to avoid any links on sites that have been penalized in the past. Quality links at a slow and steady pace seems to be a nice working formula along with as always solid unique content. As to how many of these quality links are needed well only google really knows for sure.
