Inactivei’m usually at my desk by 8:30, thanks to my kids, who will be waking up at 7am on weekends, as teenagers.
I usually turn on CNBC look to see what fires are burning, are any sites down, did the lottery data get entered, pushed, etc. From there, it’s off in about 10 different directions, doing work on old and new projects, keep an eye on the market and most recently do a bunch of work for school.
I have found, making a list helps get me more focused, but i keep forgetting to make the list.

InactiveI’m amazed at some of these responses – you’ve given up working for “the man” and yet you’re driving yourselves harder than ever?
Specifically :
I come up with some strategies and tactics for the website – put them on a whiteboard that I can see from my desk – but I don’t set deadlines.I don’t make a daily “to do” list.
I work on what I want – when I want – for as long as I wantIf its a good day outside then I’m not working at all.
I will go for a walk along the waterfront, stop in at a pub or resturant for a drink and a good meal and enjoy the day. Or I’ll go for a drive around the harbour with my partner and we will find a nice place to stop and “picnic” or go for walk.
The only regular appointment I have in my working week is to take time out once a week and go and visit my mum who is living up along the coast (about 60 kms away) and have lunch with her.
Yes – I put in working hours – but it tends to be in three time periods.
– after breakfast (which is whenever I get up) until about 11:30am
– after lunch (say from 2:30 to 5:00pm)
– in the evening from 10pm for an hour or so.Take those breaks. Wake up and smell the roses.
Enjoy each day and the journey through being self-employed.Otherwise – what was the point ?

InactiveNo one ever said working for yourself was easier than working for ‘the man’ especially in the early days. It takes hard work and time to get to where you can set a schedule like yours, and that’s my goal too, but it’s still in the future. I’ve been in the business a long time, had some MAJOR setbacks and started over a few times, and with patience, hard work and a little luck I’ll be able to set a similar schedule :wink-wink

InactiveHi Paul,
I think most of us have the schedule that we do because we really enjoy working at this job not because we have to. Atleast that is how it is for me. I’m fortunate enough to have a husband that can and does support me so it’s not so much for the money, but the fact that I love what I do.
In late 2005 I took about eight months off (other than checking email and little stuff) so I definately enjoy life and take time to smell the roses.

Yeap this is true! I love working for myself and doing what I do it is what drives me, and my kids of course..lol
If this industry would stop being such a crazy roller coaster of changes I may catch up and act like Simmo one day ..lol :hattip:

WineGuyMemberI enjoy affiliate marketing so much that I should really write up a schedule telling me to take time off and go outside or something

cobstersliceMemberI noticed that some of you do the same wrong thing that I do- go to bed late and wake up early. Sleeping well, eating well and exercising are the most important things in life. Tell me if you manage to do that…

cobstersliceMemberA cup of café takes one hour of your life, a cigarette takes 3 hours off your life a day of works takes more the 9 hours of life! Working is bad for our health.

WineGuyMemberYa but what if you really enjoy your work?
I agree with you Adam about exercise and eating right. I always make time for that, otherwise you turn into Jabba The Hut! :banger:October 15, 2007 at 2:36 pm #751314
biggygMemberI was guilty of both and when you are awake 18+ hours a day you tend to eat alot more.About 2 months ago ,I got pains in my chest ,shortness of breath etc and since that time been on a more healthier exercise and meal plan.Carbs are too easy to prepare ,I take 2 x 20 minute breaks a day to ride my stationary bike ,going out takes too much time .I keep my exercise bike in same room with my computer and tv and a picture of myself from 1997 when i was HOT,now i am just luke warm hehehe

InactiveWe have a treadmill, bike, massage table and weight bench in the basement that I try to use atleast 45 minutes a day, but I’m not in the daily habit yet.
I liked it when I went to the gym and had a trainer to “push” me, but I did not like having to get in the car and drive 5 miles to get there.
I have a 1 year old furkid that is very active and keeps me running throughout the day so I have to take him out for his daily walk. hehe

InactiveI am not doing well enough on that count. I gained a ton of weight in the 6 years I have worked in front of the computer.
Other than walking miles in airports these days, I try to get up and exercise during the day. Usually when I run into something I need to think about. The exercise distracts my thoughts, and somehow suddenly the answer pops into my head. Unfortunately that usually spells the end of the exercise session…
My two dogs keep me moving and walking and that’s a blessing.
I need to work more on getting regular exercise.
