I think the biggest bottlneck is the deposit methods, most players want to make the deposit as quick as possible. Waiting to get a NETeller, Click2Pay or Citadel e-wallet certified just turns many players away.

To my mind this just backs up my point.

If a noobie doesn’t have the basic infrastructure in place then it’s a long haul to get them ready to play and then it’s likely to be a $20-$50 deposit.

It’s far better to target and appeal to experienced players – however in ordr to do that you need a portal with better deptth than simply cutting and pasting a few affiliate banners.

90% of the affiliate sites I see are roughly thrown together sites with a bit of affiliate PAP. No target – no gameplan – and probably no revenue either.

Slotplayer, I think you hit one good point, it fits in my situation.
I am advertising especially in the Finnish market, I could read many times in general gambling forums that Finnish people do not like the idea of depositing with NETeller, because I know 80% of this people is used to gamble on a Finnish online casino, that allows them to deposit via Finnish web-bank and that pays winnings in one day, so my customers are quite spoilt and also suspicious in regard of other casinos, but of course they do not miss the chance to get a huge bonus for free. In my site I am trying to make them feeling safe about depositing with NETeller, about the fairness of the casinos and also I am suggesting a couple of casinos that allow to deposit straight with prepaid visaelectron.
TheGooner got the point too in my opinion. Because I still do not have a real good portal rich in contents and well built, I do not have natural traffic from searh engines and I can not catch the big fishes who like to gamble for money and fun not only for abusing bonuses.
This thread is giving me answers that surely made my mind more clear.
    Thank you again everybody!

Is this normal? I mean for example on 100 clicks, maybe 30 downloads,15 new accounts and no active player at all.

here is an real example of “average stats” for “free offers” traffic
    clicks 7675 downloads 3833 registrations 2351 First depositors 64
forum conversion will be less, let’s say 10 depositors, on the other
hand with this amount of traffic on payment method related terms you can
    bring over 1000 depositors.

True, noobie’s won’t bother with setting everything up, it’s a pain in the butt, that’s why I have the free casino guide and let visitors download it with or without signing up. They can read it offline. Most of my real players for brighshare and 400group come from text links in the guide according to the stats. I also threw an article on the site about real player deposits. The banners get alot of clicks but the conversions are weak.

Visitors that play the free slots games might go for no deposit offers while an experienced player might prefer the triple signup bonuses.

I disagree. G&C has always targeted newbies, they are the most wonderful players on earth, loyal and they know nothing of bonus hunting. Yes, they are harder to convert, yes they need education about payment methods and really everything, but if you do well by them and choose decent places for them to play, they will be loyal and you will be seeing them come back to you for years. Especially if you make yourself available and have the patience to explain things personally.

Of course in this business everyone has to find their own niche and do what they feel most comfortable doing. One is always best at what one likes best.

All segements of the player population can be profitable if treated appropriately. Fast or easy revenues do not always equal the largest possible renvenues.

And of course I agree with all who say that the quality of your site makes all the difference. But – we all had to start someplace.

You are not getting my newbie whales!

I’m thinking again it may be one of the differences between sports and casino.

You deal mostly with males who like sports and poker and I deal with women who like slots and Bingo.

Our demographics are like night and day.

Stands to reason their deposit habits are like night and day, too.

That’s an interesting thread.. and I think that all of you are right as each answer represent one of many perspectives.

You can build a great site and get loads of traffic.. You can never know who is the person who clicked, what was he exactly looking for nor what exactly made him choose a free play or a sign up bonus. You can’t tell if his decision to make (or not to make) a deposit was impulsive or planned.

You can tell almost nothing about individuals and what made them click, join deposit, or even come to your site at first place.

You don’t even know where your visitor is from until his visit is over. You don’t know if he visited your site from the computer in his office in the middle of his day or from his home computer at night.

You can only focus on the marketing method you think you can do best and aim for the right target audience in general.

I use the free play offers on my sites to attract players and I get players who just use the free play and never deposit on one hand while on the other hand I see players that instantly deposit at casinos with no free promotions at all. I can’t tell you what made them sign up exactly.. But they did. So, aiming for free play promotions isn’t that bad.. you can never tell if will visit the casino and sign up because of another weekly promotion they like.

    In other words,
The free play / no deposit offers are marketing method to get the player to visit the casino and “feel” it.

You can’t tell if the free play it self is the trigger for the deposit or any other reason.. but as you can see, free play offers are with us for a long time for a good reason.. no casino will run such a promo if it’s not successful for so long.

    Good luck
