It is my understanding a banner would load faster on your own server.

I think the best part of being on their server is when they update te banner it is updated on your site in real time, thus you always have the current offer on your site.

It also will save on bandwidth, but I can’t imagine this is a large concern for most casino affiliates.

no loading problems when served from theirs,

except the bandwith, its easier and faster, cause you dont have to download them and upload again, etc.

I’ve seen problems before when the affiliate programs website was down. There was an instance where my whole website would not load because of this, but it certainly depends on how the banner is embedded (html vs. javascript etc).

I always host my own banners, there’s been a few times in the past where the affiliate programs banners have gone down.

Banners do go down. If you host them then they only go down when your whole site is down anyway.

When they go down because of the program’s servers, you alienate visitors, your site looks uncared for and outdated.

Besides, people who can’t click, can’t play.

I also just had a problem with Referback’s hosted banners where Firefox with AdBlock was classifying them as ads and therefore not showing them, so I had to move them to my server since I had several complaints about them not showing up. They use some service called clicketyclick or something to serve them which sounds pretty ad-dish to me too.

Aside from any SEO benefits, that’s why it’s important to use the img alt tag, visitors that may have images disabled or are on text mode only browsers can see what the banner ad is about. Nowadays, surfers seldom have graphics disabled and hardly any use text only browsers anymore except for accessibility users.

When a page loads using Opera you can see the load speed time, number of images and each remote path the page must take to serve it’s contents.
You’ll be able to see which server is slow in responding.
