neophyteMemberonly smf forum affected then?
September 28, 2007 at 12:58 pm #750180Anonymous
InactiveNope, quite a range of forum softwares are affected. The softwares I use for forums are:
1. SMF – Simple Machines Forum (Affected)
2. Snitz (May be Affected, or might be some other automated bot)
3. vBulletin (not yet affected)Here is a snippet from the website:
Software is able to work with lots of different types of forums and guestbooks: phpBB and PHP-Nuke with any modifications, yaBB, VBulletin, Invision Power Board, IconBoard, UltimateBB, exBB, phorum.org, wiki, different types of bulletin boards and even custom-written code.
Version 4.0 is now in beta and that one, apparently, can use more boards – I am sure SMF is one of them. You would have to do your own research to see what stops it. All I know is that I have been affected and I am fairly certain this is the culprit. It’s quite annoying.

Well… While I am converting all my forums to vBulletin, you can see that this software DOES work with vBulletin.
Also – it is very noteworthy, IMO, that I have several forums and the ones that get the BEST SEO traffic (no matter the topic) are my SMF forums.
I converted one SMF forum to vBulletin and the traffic stopped completely. I don’t think (unless vbSEO is purchased) that the SEO quality is as high ‘out of the box’. I am going to convert another SMF forum to vB today and I am a bit worried because it is a VERY well indexed forum and gets lots of SE traffic. I am implementing a 301 re-direct, of course, but that didn’t help last time

PS – I am only converting because I want a common platform and I like all the mods for vB
