InactiveI just don’t think there is any ONE thing.
Norton is good if it doesn’t mess up your Outlook Express. It is quite comprehensive, and if you insist on relying on any one thing it’s likely the way to go.
I also run Aluria, which cost me some 30 bucks a while ago. It monitors if you are being jumped by trojans etc. I run it once a week to clean out accumulated messes – and while I am very safety conscious and don’t download stuff it always finds a bunch of messes. It was also the only program, (I tried all the free anti spyware ones) that rid me of a very nasty trojan.
And for a firewall I prefer Zone Alarm Pro. It gives you full control and is just the best out there.
Since Norton does mess with my mail in a bad way, I use Macafee. The only complaint I have there is the graphic it displays when it catches a bug – a hand squeezing the life out of a bug – YIKES!!!!

GuestDominique is right – there is no one thing.
I’m using Trend Micro Security.
ZoneAlarm is great, also.
On top of that I have Ad-Watch running constantly.I could have more, but in all this time what I have has been working fine.
You can scan your computer for viruses online here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

InactiveNorton Internet Security completely includes Norton Anti-Virus. NIS also has the Norton Firewall… basically NIS is buying two products together that ciould be bought separately. Get NIS and you don’t need anything else, but you could add other products if you want. Having anti-virus and firewall made to work together is a good thing, imo.

InactiveAha, something in my area

Norton Internet Security and NAV are a good combination. However, NIS is also one of the reasons why you are getting less conversions because of its haphazard adblocking – and frankly I don’t intend to give them a penny.
McAfee has suites as well – in fact, many of the combos are on sale right now – but they have a track record of issuing advisories a little bit too late for some people. Though my cousin was Director of Virus Research there, I wouldn’t give them a penny either.
What I suggest is:
Sophos Anti-virus for your virus protection.
Sygate Personal Firewall for your firewall, but Zone Alarm is also quite good.
For spyware – Adaware is good but don’t let it start up by default, it is a real time and memory hog. Schedule it to run 2-3x a week with your task scheduler instead.October 12, 2004 at 9:32 pm #656034
vladcizsolMemberI run the full Norton Suite and for Spyware I use Spybot Search and Destroy. So far its been a very effective combination.

InactiveAVG anti-virus is a decent program that has a free (not trial) version, as well as various paid versions. I’ve seen it clean viruses that Norton’s wouldn’t. http://www.grisoft.com
Zone Alarm is a good software-based firewall, and ad-aware is great for removing spyware.
