I don’t see it of any benefit for online products and services. This sort of feature seems to be made ‘à la Yellow Page’ where you can find local commerces for your everyday needs like the barber, bank, restaurant etc.

I guess it could help if you are looking for casinos licensed or managed in a particular jurisdiction?

This is ideal if you are a small business in a city looking for business in a city, but other than that I feel it will be no use to us guys.

    Good idea though.

    I agree completely.

However … in some parts of the world, the government
targets the POOREST neighborhoods to put the MOST
video lotteries machines … the virtual internet equivalent
    might become possible.

For some reason, I have a hard time imagining Loto-Quebec tackling the internet to promote “Chez Maurice’s Tavern” video poker machines. Although, stranger things have happened.

Just tried to use this feature, however, you can only target 5 areas at a time.

I don’t think this will be a perfect system because even by source
IP they won’t be able to precisely determine which cities the visitors are from.

I’m not so sure about that, Aleph. The technology is getting quite sophisticated. The browser reveals alot of information to web sites.

I’ve seen some geotargetting in action and it’s really mind boggling.

    Melanie Tout Est Possible,

If my speedreading worked even Google says
    that it won’t be 100 % accurate.

    Maybe with IPv6.

I would be interested to know more about what you know.

I attended a lecture on this in Vegas.

They start with your IP address – determine the longitude and latitude and the contry. then they plant a cookie that has your zip code, country, state and city.

Once this is established, one can enhance the intelligence with content, user, process, affinity and pathway intelligence modules.

Yup, though it won’t work well with proxy servers.
