I was recently published on the Marketing Magazine about some of the benefits on LinkedIn.com Look forward to seeing and experiencing CAP Downunder.

Sure, the applications and features of facebook cater very well for business networking. But by the end of the day it’s the people within the network that creates the value, not the technical platform.
Good discussion!

November 5, 2008 at 9:24 pm #785597sukjo1MemberI think that LinkedIn.com is the best social networking website in the world, and is the one for business networking. They are professional and also offer good support if required. By the way, my Facebook profile and groups are not working at the moment. I was using Facebook and my business groups in a business-like fashion, with business updates to my business network, and then I got a message from Facebook that I wasn’t using Facebook in an appropriate fashion. The messages went with “Faceboook limits the number of times a user can send the same message or make the same post. I’m currently awaiting action from Facebook”. Lesson… be aware that Facebook may not support some business use functionality, and one may officially break the T&C’s of Facebook unintentially, but actions such as posting news clipping updates and urls to news media coverage etc to one’s network, as I did. It’s always best to own and operate your own websites, as I do (I have 4 of them), so that you have ownership and control of your online work, not leave it up to chance of an admin at a social networking website company. I won the Hitwise Australia top ten award again yesterday, and I don’t need Facebook, but thought I would give them ago. I am disappointed that Facebook hasn’t gotten back to me within 5 days, and I’m a qualified journalist and have worked for some of the worlds biggest ISPs, and do technology reporting. I am hoping that Facebook sort out the issues, not just for me, but for others. In the meantime big thumbs up to LinkedIn.com, and to owning and operating your own websites. I may speak also on this at some upcoming media and gaming conferences.

LinkedIn is not aimed directly at any one industry. It’s designed to help people make professional connections in any industry.
And thanks for the useful info, Greg! That’s really good stuff to know.
November 12, 2008 at 9:47 pm #786696SypeHavepsyMemberHow many of you affiliates uses twitter and if so, do you mostly follow other people or contribute your self?

November 12, 2008 at 9:56 pm #786699sukjo1MemberI’m on Twitter now also but I’m yet to see any real business benefit. It’s just another place to be found on the web and a bit of fun. It can of course help drive traffic to your site and assist with awareness. Your main business and social network would already have an idea about what your up to, but I see some merit in being able to post an update about what one’s up to on Twitter.

LinkedIn is a good place to connect with professionals and to develop business
Excellent ideaNovember 24, 2008 at 12:47 pm #788118smswmexchangeMembermy question is how?
is it possible for me as an affiliate manager to find affiliates there?
i fail to see the potential here
can any 1 explain?November 26, 2008 at 3:09 pm #788357sofdawgMemberI don’t think linkedin has much value in terms of new affiliate acquisition, but in terms of managing business relationships and broadening networks within and outside the industry, there is significant worth.
It’s not at all surprising that FB takes that stance… especially considering their recent “upgrades” which were quite obviously geared toward creating more space for targeted PPC marketing campaigns. If you’re using it to market, they want a piece . You’ve gotta love “free” utilities.
