InactiveIf it helps any webmaster avoid being persecuted by the United States government and risk joining to prison I would be willing to
discuss buying any assets such as domain names, entire websites, mailing lists, software etc etc etc.We can use escrow.com and the sale can be safely completed
and you will have your money in 5 business days. Not to incite fear in any American just stating reality,
I remember years ago that a site owned by an American
that was fairly well known at the time was sold at a fire sale price because of exactly this situation.I have also met and heard of many leaving the United States
soil because of this. This is serious. If I can help you to get out now send me a message.
I will offer you a fair market price.
Betting that the HUGE special interests lobbies in
the United States will stop is in my
humble opinion suicidal. If you have more financial backing and legal fire power
than Paypal and Ebay staying in the business
is still an option. If not contact Cedrik. You will be in good hands.
If you want to sell out while you still can contact me.

InactiveAm I understanding this right?
If a person operates a gambling portal on a web site that is hosted on a server within the borders of the USA then that person is committing a felony offense by having casino banners on their website?October 5, 2003 at 3:16 pm #639938
vladcizsolMemberParadox the issue is not cut and dry and open to legal interpertation. The discussion came to a fore front recently when a Portal owner was subpeoneaed by the Department of Justice to turn over financial and business records. It’s widely believed that the portal in question was targeting Online Sports betting and not casinos. You can read about the subpeona here:
http://www.igamingnews.com/index.cfm?page=artlisting&tid=4553
To read one law firms view point about the legality of Online Gambling Portals in the US go here:
http://www.lawrencewalters.com/advertising_casinos.php3
and here
http://www.lawrencewalters.com/gambling_ads.php3
It’s important to note that these papers are an interpertation and subject to error or legal challenge.

InactiveThanks Professor for those excellent links.
After reading the content is seems that the issue is open to a variety of interpretations. I’m wondering if it would be best (meaning totally safe) to have the gambling portal web sites hosted outside of the USA in the same way that the casinos themselves are hosted outside of the US?October 5, 2003 at 4:45 pm #639945Anonymous
InactiveHey Prof,
since that Law firm is nearby, have you made contact with them?
I would love to go to one of his seminars or talks…if it wasn’t expensive…

vladcizsolMemberI havent yet Rick, but its nice to know they are there if we need them.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see them at the upcoming SRI event in November as that group tends to attract a lot of attorney participation.

vladcizsolMemberQuestion…
If we owned a Canadian corporation would that entity e subject to Canadian taxes? I have to believe it would be. I have heard that corporate income taxes in Canada range as high as 50% or more. Is this correct?

InactiveHi Prof,
Good to hear from you and hope all is well.
Since it’s Yom Kippur today, I will have our accountant and lawyers to answer this question tomorrow.

InactiveProfessor,
Regarding your inquiry about Corporate Tax rates in Canada.
Currently, corporate tax rates are slightly (-0.6%) lower than the US. This of course varies slightly based on location etc. but as an average it is lower. My wife is an Chartered accountant so I have reliable information and can provide more detailed info. if needed.
I’m assuming that there is some interest in Casino Portal owners and operators to consider Canada as a viable option given the US governments current litigious view on internet gambling.
I am from Canada and would gladly do some of the research needed if anyone is interested in moving operations up here. Regarding incorporating up here, this can be done online for a couple of hundred or less.
Also, if the potential profits from online gaming ventures are high enough, I have a shell company with a 1.89 million dollar tax credit that could be used for this purpose. It may be a viable option for an online gaming co-op or something. With this company you would pay no taxes until you have reached the 1.89 million dollar proft point. Just a thought.
Also, reliable hosting is also plentiful here. If you could give an idea of what you are currently paying for individual / reseller accounts I can find out more on this. I am also buying into a hosting company and this niche is one that we have discussed targetting so any info. you could provide would assist us in developing packages for portal owners.
If anyone would like more information on anything I’ve discussed here, please PM me for more details.

InactiveHi Prof,
To answer your previous question, according to our lawyers, a registered company located in Canada will be reported on your personal income so you won’t need to declare any income taxes in Canada.
Similar to Kevin 11 idea, we can also provide all affiliates with a corporation but you will have to produce monthly statements and an income tax report in Canada. Of course, the fees are a higher.
We try to accomodate all affiliates and respect their decisions.
Feel free to contact us at 514-748-1950.
Regards,Cedrik
