    This is very old.

PS. Covers is not a gambling website. It’s an information site, they accept advertising from sportsbetting/gambling companies.

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s a url on the USA Today website.

And it has an ad that links to a sportsbook on the page…

    Does anyone find that surprising?

I don’t find it surprising at all since I have had dealings with covers from 4 years back.

Did you read what I read above:

    • Covers is an sports information site, news etc.
    • Covers also accepts advertising from sports betting companies, Bodog, etc.

    Carlo,

I realize what covers is. But the ad isn’t on cover’s site, it’s on the website of a US newspaper…

Granted the portion of the website is devoted to covers… But the page is still on USA Today’s server.

Given the developments in the industry i’m surprised to see an ad for a sportsbook located on the website of a large US newspaper.

It’s all in the domain ending.

Notice is leads to sportsbook.net, not .com.

    ie: Their free site.

I don’t actually see any sportsbook ads. When it comes to the matchup section it does say “Bodog.com”.

Where are the sportsbook ads? I wonder is it geotargetting for me?

It’s a subdomain that USA Today have set up. Covers have most likely given USA Today an IP address to point to and USA Today then link to it.

    Pinging covers.usatoday.com = 208.68.72.128

The whois for that is = http://whois.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=208.68.72.128
    (http://sportsdirectinc.com/SPORTS-CONTENT/publishing.html)

So you can see that it is NOT USA Today.

    usatoday.com = http://whois.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=usatoday.com

I don’t know if that shows what’s going on… I still can’t see sportsbetting ads on there though.

They aren’t running sportsbook ads, they’re poker ads and it’s not affiliate links, it’s flat fee advertising. My guess is that USA Today had their lawyers look at it and conclude that it’s ok. These ads have been on their website for quite some time now.

I think it would be great if all US Newspapers, Periodicals, Radio stations and search engines accepted gambling ads. At one time they did and it was a hell of a lot easier finding real players…. :3eyes:

When I said they “accept advertising” I meant flat fee and not advertising revenues generated via affiliate income.

I know in the past covers/wagerline was a big ol’ affiliate deal but I’d imagine they canned that with Bodizzle and changed it up to a flat fee.
