InactiveIt showed Bill Frist killing a cat… well, it was a make-believe killing… but I guess it looked real enough to some people to be offensive.
Nothing bloody or gruesome…
I knew it was not a real video when I used it, and maybe that’s why I could laugh and not be offended. Someone who just saw the video and didn’t know it was a fake could have thought it was real.
Let me assure you all: I’ve had cats all my life. I have one now. I am a cat person and love them much more than dogs. If I thought for one second that the tape I used was real, I would have never used it. But I knew it was commercial…. made by Ford Motor Company… so I knew it was all fake.

InactiveIntegrity, if you made a human interest clip, no humor, no reference to gambling, with cats/kittens playing, then sitting behind bars, then in small cages, then showing someone dissecting a heart, no blood, gore or cruelty depicted, and put factual info about Frist’s activities in the narration, including his own account, I could get that widely circulated by viral emails people forward to each other and it would cause outrage among animal lovers.
Different genre of video but I bet you can do it….
And it would likely draw interest to your other clips…
And all of them should be distributed to the late night and other TV comedy folks as well as newscasts.

vladcizsolMemberNooooo! For the love of Mike leave the cats alone.
Let’s stick to fat asses and “Doo-Doo” Jokes where noone other then the occasional proctologist feels slighted.
Animal cruelty or testing is never a warm and fuzzy way to get a point across.

InactiveProf did you miss that Frist did extensive animal testing in his student years? That point needs to be made somehow. How this is portrayed needs to be carefully thought out though. There are people at cafe press selling Frist Cat Killer mugs.

vladcizsolMemberGoldfinger do you really think Animal Testing will help our cause?
I didnt see the video but its obvious that it touched a raw nerve with people who saw it and J Todd wisely pulled it. If the subject matter had that effect on people in our industry who wanted to like the video, what do you think it would do to casual viewers?
Nope I think we would do better off sticking to legtimate concerns like the secret lobbying money paid by Harrahs and the loss of freedom for americans.
You can have fun while hitting those topics, as the first three videos did, without getting into a wholly unrelated area that turns off viewers.October 20, 2006 at 1:40 pm #712740Anonymous
InactiveIn the field of psychology people who kill animals in their youth are flagged as psychopaths, with a career of killing humans a likely scenario of their adult life.
Psychopaths are charming, oftentimes successful people who have absolutely no moral compass.
This is scary stuff.
Obviously showing blood and gore is not the way to touch the hearts of animal lovers. This is a human interest story, not a funny and not a snuff movie. Any portrayal of this should be sad, and no other emotion should be involved.

InactiveI make a monthly contibution to PETA. I love animals of any kind, quite unfortunate we still think we are the dominate species. Can’t remember the last time I visted the local Zoo.
In any case love and appreciate all animals they have the right to be here.

Course it might not have much significance to our industry; so not sure of its role other than the one listed above.October 20, 2006 at 3:15 pm #712766Anonymous
