In 2009 we sold a few links to raise money for a homeless man , the buyers has sites 3-8 years old and considered authority sites.Too bad we could not do it this year as we realised it was for a good cause but we ran a risk we would not take.We do not even do link exchanges now.
Very nice idea to raise money for charity but people would only do it to increase rankings which is paid links.
Nowadays even if you run a competition and say something such as; “link to us and get the chance to win …………”. That is a form of paid links also.

This is very old thread but here is few scenarios what is happening;
1.) There is a ‘hire a link exchange expert’ thing going on on the net – you can hire so called SEO expert (usually from India/Bangladesh/Pakistan or similar) that will spam webmasters 24/7 trying to get some links for your site for couple of $$$. However those mails usually have at least one or 2 links so you can take a look at the site in question – I never reply or answer those emails. If you reply at least once, it is most likely that you will have another 100 mails in your inbox instantly with same message but different sites/names.
2.) Then some mails don’t have any links but offer you whatever deal and always say ‘reply if you are interested’. Those are just harvesting emails and later on send you no deposit casino cra* offers
The best thing to do is to ignore those mails, just delete them. If they are persistent, just bounce back the email and your mail address will be showed in their system/inbox as invalid.
Yeah, sorry for digging this up but it does seem like it is the new way forward with SEOs who flood affiliate sites for links. I have even been contacted by a huge site that blatantly buys paid links from the email they sent me which could easily get punished.

warp speedMemberI think the best way to avoid it not to reply them If they are not mentioning their site.

I am receiving like 30 to 40 generic link requests a day, like these:
And on and on and on. None of the signed names match the sender’s names, most don’t have any names on them at all. They certainly don’t mention their websites.
This is really annoying!
Hey Dom, can you send me the mail that came from Todd (pm to me). I think I know where these emails are coming from.
It’s most likely a “linksmanager” type service. They are quite spammy.

InactiveThis is an old thread and I don’t have it anymore.
But the topic is still spot on. I get a bunch of requests daily. Due to the spammy nature of a lot of them, I never even look at any of them and just delete.
As a matter of fact I have stopped all link exchanges, period.
Another example of how a few bad eggs can spoil it for all of us.
But I have to say I don’t miss the headaches of trying to keep links current.

InactiveI am about to hire my 16 year old as a link manager for the site lol it gives him something to do and I think they are gonna give him credit in school for it!
None the less the linking thing is pretty out of hand… lots of underhanded things have gone on that I am sure those that have done it think they got away with something but lets hope karma comes to :dajudge: in the head lol
None the less getting emails to link is a good thing IMO for sure! Make a nice standard reply pointing them to where to add their link.
Think of it as panning or whatever the gold miners used to do.. you will go through A LOT of dirt but eventually will find a nice golden website you were glad you linked to. I am talking 1 out of 100 though and alot of time but what if in the end links were king again and if you dont have em your SOL?
“I have plenty of incoming links to my site” – ever experienced turnover or natural attrition? do you think you will always have these links?
IMO never stop working on your linkspages no matter what google tells you.

InactiveThis is a problem with all industries.
3 ways scammers working for the boss, fake link builders, etc, etc.As a result link exchange has bad press, and we can’t reap the benefits of the legitimate swaps.

RodgerMMemberWhat i do is let them build up over time because you dont want to be looking through every day. Then send a mass emails to all the webmasters that you are ready to exchange links and to send a list of there sites w/ pr and work from there to what suits you best.
