InactiveNot surprised!
Parrots are expensive, I used to raise them and theft was such a threat that I had trained police dogs patrolling the property. Not guard dogs, real police dogs (Schutzhund training plus).
When I was travelling back in the hippie days, I was approached by some people who offered to fly me to Australia and back, including a nice vacation there, if I brought back parrot eggs in my bra.
Smuggling parrots has always been a big thing. Thank god it is practically eradicated and most pet parrots these days are sweet and hand raised locally.
Imported parrots hate people and carry diseases.
Birds like the one in that story, a Greenwing Macaw that is handraised, are really cuddly and sweet and have the intelligence of a 3 year old human.
Now you know everything you never wanted to know about parrots…

InactiveYes, this happens a lot. When at a local petstore I once saw a woman put a baby parakeet up her sleeve.
I guess stealing something that’s alive is a bigger challenge.
Neither Nandays nor parakeets are expensive.

InactiveWell, shoplifting counts as a disease for some… Some people do it for some sort of compulsive reason no one understands.
I have always prefered Double Yellows to Yellow Napes… nicer disposition and talk the same. Not to mention prettier.

InactivePeople also don’t give cockatoos credit. I have a Goffins that speaks like Alex the Grey – names foods and actually communicates what he wants. All of his many siblings were equally talented.
Lots of really neat birds out there….
I was raising Blue Fronts (not crowns) and Double Yellows as far as Amazons go.
I think most of us are partial to those species of which we encountered especially nice individuals…My alltime favorites were Hawkheads. From the point of view of looks, sweetness and talent.
