Another question entering into this is, is there a future for travel?
We are now at a peak for travelling, the skies are packed with planes and many airports are starting to be overloaded. We can build more airports, but we can only have so many planes in the sky at a time.
Earth population is still exploding. My guess is that travel by plane will be a precious commodity in the future and out of reach or impractical for many. Look at the huge messes in the travel industry already, people stranded in airports for days at increasingly short intervals. The system is approaching its limit.
Cars are already much of an annoyance, whether you travel to your job every day in dense traffic or drive long distance at the high price of fuel. Trains will likely make a comeback but have their own limitations.
If people keep multiplying, most will eventually be confined to home for work and much of entertainment. Already you have people watching movies at home instead of the theatre. The number of people working from home increases exponentially every year.
With travel becoming increasingly stressful and eventually out of reach for many, people won’t be hopping on a plane to Vegas at every opportunity anymore.
So where are they going to play? Work? Socialize? Keep in touch with family and friends? Of course online, by computer or cell or whatever hybrids are going to be popping up.
