InactiveI also used to check my links periodically (because I use manual link adding), and used to see that a lot of my partners removed my site, or the page is not available, or just I cannot reach it from the home page anymore.
I used to write a letter to them and wait for 1-2 weeks until I completely remove their links if I got no answer…At this times, I rarely exchange links, fortunately my site is referred on other sites (without asking for link exchange). Or I exchange links only with CAP members who are actively use the forum.
It is always sad to see that you are honest and take care of other’s links and they just remove yours after some time (or use disgusting techniques like nofollow) – that’s why I don’t use automatic exchanges.

InactiveThis sort of thing happens all the time–it’s always a good idea to randomly check your links from time to time.
Before you get too upset, remember, this may not have been intentional. Just drop the webmaster an email and give him/her a few days to correct the situation or else you’ll drop the link.

InactiveI’ve had that happen to me, too. Sometimes I contact the webmaster, and other times I just take down the link. It depends on the value of the link. If my link was on a PR4 or PR5 page, you can bet that I’ll be sending an email.

Sometimes, if they put your link on dynamically generated links page, it can be pushed off the original page… i.e. it can be pushed to Page 2, or 3, etc. I don’t like this type of setup; I prefer my links to remain on the same page, permanently.

InactiveI only link to people I know and trust.
So it’s not a problem.
Besides – I am convinced that outgoing links have value also.

I would drop an email first also. I just recently upgraded my link exchange, must are not in the same place anymore. Sometimes things happen. One email then remove link. Just my 2 cents.

InactiveOutgoing links will make engines understand what is your theme / niche.
Reciprocate links don’t have the same value of the past. Some engines are even targeting them…January 19, 2006 at 3:33 pm #681324Anonymous
